I have a Ruger 458 Lott being sent to me along with a Lee 457-450-F mould,(a PB 450gn bore rider with meplated round nose) a lb of Red Dot, Win LR primers and 40 cases. I am to play with it untill I get a load in the 13-1500fps range ( preferably closer to 1500)and expect as I get 1400fps with 20 gn RD in my 404 Jeffery that some where in the 15 - 20 gn should get me there. Alloy will be 50/50 ww/Pb and lube will be my 2/3 bees wax/1/3 vaseline
Assuming good fit, any forseeable difficulties in getting there with the 50/50.
I have another alloy (in bulk) of 47/33/20 - ww/Pb/lino (95.1%Pb - 3.8%Sb - 1.03%Sn)
Comments Gentlemen please, but only within the paremeters of the available components.

Good luck! [smilie=l: If you can prevent skid with Red Dot, maybe.
Is it just velocity you are looking for?

You may be under size, I have a Ruger #1 in .458 Lott that I load the Lee c457-500, I had to lap it out about a thou. Have you slugged the bore? Try using smokeless data for the 45-110 sharps, case length is almost identical.

RD will give it a mighty whack, very fast. I think you will have better luck with Unique.

I've got an old Ohaus mould very similar to the Lee 457-450-F. Using 50/50 WW/PB, boolits drop .4595 and right at 440 gr. Loaded in Starline .45-70 cases over 29.5 gr. AA2015 (w/dacron filler) develops 1320 fps from my Pedersoli RB with essentially zero leading.

I'm not home, but if I remember right I am shooting the 460420 group buy, (a plain base boolit), in a 45/70 guide gun with:

40 grains of 3031 with a tuff of dacron
WLR primers
Starline Brass
AC 50/50 lead/WW
sized 460 with CRed

It chrono'd at 1500 and no leading. I am very pleased with the accuracy. It warped my 3/8 mild steel ram at 100 yards.

I get better accuracy with AC 50/50 than Waterdropped WWs.

A BIG +1 on that. I've gone to loading "as cast' AC 50/50 in all my single-shots.

Dont have velocity as the main goal. A 450gn 45 cal boolit with a decent meplat in the right place out to about 100yds for pig is going to get the job done. Just put the pot on to heat so will get some cast up today and see how it goes. By the look of the boolit that was left in the mould I can load it as cast and with .457 of drive bands having 3x.050 lube grooves it looks to have enough drive band length to engage without skid even with the RD.
