Looking for a good mold for my son's (and my son's buddy, as well) Marlin lever action in 35 Remington. Does Lee make a mold for this cartridge?

Thanks,

Mark

I'd go with the RCBS 35-200 FN. Shoots real nice in all my 35's.

Not sure if Lee offers anything in .358 for rifles. A heavy pistol bullet would work for a plinker. I have had some luck with Lee's 158 gr round/flatnose. Better would be RCBS's 200 gr. I have had excellent performance with RCBS's 250gr sillywet boolit. you have to crimp on the bore ride portion but it is accurate with 4895 and hits like Thor's hammer when cast soft.

It helped me take first place in combined score at NCBS this year. I think that I shot a 46 2X at 100 yards standing offhand with a scoped rifle using it. It is an old model 336A with 5 digit serial number, and K4 weaver, 24" bbl with half magazine. I love it.

Haven't tried a LEE mold but have had good results in my Marlin levers with RCBS 35-200-FN and Saeco 352.

Here's a good article on the subject from Glen Fryxell

+ another for the RCBS 35-200-FN. It is the .35 Rem cast bullet.

The RCBS 35-200 is a good'un! My particular pet of late is a 35-180GSFN GB from some years back that plops them in little groups at 1650 fps. Lots of fun!

Mark, I've been wondering the same thing lately.

Larry,

How far below the case neck does the RCBS bullet prortrude into the case? I typically cast and then load about 50 rounds to have at the ready. I'm concerned about the case lube being exposed to the powder in the case over an extended period of time. Any idea how far into the case that bullet goes?

I've heard the Saeco #356 is similar but shorter. Maybe Buckshot will chime in on that mould too and it's length inside the case.

Only about 1/3 to 1/2 of the GC extends below the shoulder with cases trimmed to 1.915" and crimped lightly in the crimp groove. No lube is exposed to the powder. I generally keep 150 200 rounds "ready to go" for my .35 Rem. It's so much fun and pleasant to shoot i usually shoot it a lot.

look into the Ranch Dog moulds for your 35 Rem.

I use 37 gr of milsurp 4895 under the RCBS bullet in my M91 Bolt action. That is "up there" for a lever gun. Suggest you work up if you use 4895 from say 32 gr. I use no filler with this cartridge BTW.

I like 35 grs 748 or BLc-2 with the RCBS 35-200. I also use standard LR primers. The usual start a few grs lower. Mark

i have always thought a 35 Rem would be a perfect short range bush gun.

near impossible to find up here, 'cept in the lever variety.

( I don't trust the Rem spiraled mag on their pump, with the flat nosed booits. )

I have kept my eyes open for a 35cal barrel suitable for a Husqvarna m38 SR action.

I am personally looking to buy one of the model 14's at some point. When I first saw that twisted pipe years ago, I was hooked. I wish I would have picked one up then. A model 8 would be nice too.

Also use the RCBS 35-200 mould. Shoots great out of my micro-groove barreled Marlin 336C.
Also us it out of my .358 Winchesters, .35 Whelens and my .350 Remington Magnum.

I really like the RCBS 35-200 for serious work too. I load it over the same load I use with the 200 grain jacketed bullets, 35 grains of AA-2015. Same point of impact at 100 yards with both bullets, and very accurate.

The RCBS 200gr is a great from it's design to performance on the range. I use it in a Marlin in .35 Rem and in a mauser 98 in .35 whelen. Cast it soft, hollow point it and it will never fail you.

+1 for the RCBS 35 200. I size it .359 launch it out of my microgroove 336 at 1850 with 25gr IMR 4198. T-Bird
