Try 16-17 gr. 2400.

Do the same with AA9 and contrast accuracy and velocity with the 2400 load. If no chrono, guestimate velocity difference by boolit placement higher or lower than the other load. Report back. ... felix

Pete,
My powders of choice is fast turning into Lil Gun and its Alliant clone, 410, for the 44Mag, 357Mag, and the 454Casull. Top velocities with low apparent pressures.
Depends on what ur after. Green Dot makes a great cheap plinking round, Unique will do much the same.
Cheers,
R*2
Ps. I got the 20" version, LOVE the pistol grip 1894.

Ditto on the AA9, but also try, if you have access to, the clones H108 and WC820 (both el cheapo).

My favorite cowboy load is the Lee 200 RF (mine run ~207) over 6.5 Grn Dt for ~800 fps. Really good plinking load.

The new Hodgdon Trail Boss (I think that's the name) looks interesting, but golly gee, @ $20 plus a pound (I'm assuming it will be premium priced) like all the other cannister stuff, it looks too pricey just to try. Herco is a purdy good medium load powder, kinda like a slow Unique. sundog

edit: One other thing. I've also used AA7 clone surplus with okay results - pull the rigger, goes bang, boolit hits target. Thinking about some #5 surplus as it should be versatile in alot of different stuff, too... and cheap.

Pete,

Guys have given ya the loads. All I would recommend is a GC bullet design to use with those ports. Otherwise, you will ruin the appearance in no time trying to clean it up. FWIW.

going to load up some 44 special skeeter loads to try first
240 swc 7.5 grs unique
then try some of the 240 swc in mag brass with 2400 and AA#9.
going to the range on thurs.
y'all have been great thanks for the help.
