I have an Erma .22 Luger and an Arminus revolver that both need complete refinishing. The frames of both are pot metal. Any suggestions on what I can use to refinish them? Will one of the cold blue kits work?

The cold blue kits wont work. It was probably powder coated or epoxy painted. Use some Jasco paint stripper or something equally strong and take it down to bare metal. Have it re-powder coated, or use a spray epoxy like Duracoat.

Plain old high temp spray paint or Dura coat is selling a product in a spray can that does not need baking now.

Brownells sells a bake on finish for aluminum that should work.

One of the modern gun paints should work well.

Aerosol-anodizing!
Go to the local auto parts place and get a can of VHT EPOXY in semi-gloss black, best 8 bucks you'll ever spend;)

There are "aluminum blueing" solutions available out there. Just curious if any one has tried any of them??

I used it on a couple of scope mounts I made for Benjamin air guns. The metal needs to be super clean with no oxidation for it work.
A lot of "pot metal" is zinc.

+1 on that. I tried the birchwood (alumiblack?) product with exactly those results on Al.

I could never get alumablack to stay on for any length of time. I bead blast with glass texturing beads (120 grit) and finish with Dura Coat.
