I found this at the junk yard while picking up some throttle body parts. Picked up the two for $2. Would this be a good size to melt down WW? Big one with the handle is 8" round 6" deep. The small one is 8" round and 4" deep.

Looks like a winner to me. I've smelted in smaller. Depends on how much you're doing at a time, I guess.

Heck for 2 bucks it is better than a winner. My smelting pot is 8in dia by 4 in deep and I can get 25x4lb ingots from a smelt.

True! I do all of my smelting in a cheap chinese cast iron skillet, as I smelt in small batches. As a side note, I have the same two pots in the picture. Chinese made, but they work great. Handles come off easy enough too. [smilie=s:

I've used smaller than that. To me it looks about the perfect size. When you think how much weight will be in that when full, it holds allot.

I routinely use one smaller than that. No problem unless you want to do wholesale lots. Bigger is not always better.

I just got a 6 qt stainless steel pot from a yard sale for 3 bucks.
A full pot yeilds around 50# of ingots

I used one identical to the larger pot when I was working off a Coleman stove. It worked fine for many years. Do not try to lift a full pot with the handle.

i just melted down a bucket of ww with a pot that looks just like that. got it for 5 bucks at a thrift store. i do wish i had a pot i could throw half a bucket in to start, but it works, and the lid mine came with speeds it up a little.
