I did some chronographing with my 1894 classic 25-20 yesterday and thought I would share the results. Fired 5 shots per load, temp. 40 degrees. Please excuse the jacketed loads.

86gr remington softpoint-12grs Reloader 7
Average = 1669fps
High = 1747fps
low = 1626 fps
ES = 121.1

75gr Speer flatpoint-12grs IMR 4198
Average = 1692fps
High = 1713fps
low = 1681fps
ES = 31.4

60gr Hornady flatpoint-15gr Data 68
Average = 1907
High = 1920
low = 1900
ES = 20.4

75gr hornady holowpoint(loaded singleshot) - 14gr Data 68
Average = 1729
High = 1731
low = 1726
ES = 4.6!!!

85gr Lyman cast WW - 11.5gr IMR 4198
Average = 1626
High = 1666
low = 1571
ES = 94.7

80 gr lee GB - 2.7gr Unique
928fps

80 gr lee GB - 6.gr IMR 4227
1133fps

Looks like Data 68 is pretty darn consistent in this case, might replace 4198 as my go to powder for the 25-20.

I'd definitely do some extended group shooting to get a real handle on accuracy, as I've found the lowest ES doesn't translate into the most accurate load in many cases....great chrono data, and if you don't mind, I'll print it up.

I agree about the lower ES not always being the most accurate load, the load listed with the highest ES, the rem 86 bullet, is one of the most accurate loads in my rifle. I have had this rifle for 15 years and have found that it is hard to beat 12gr of 4198 with the 75gr speer flat point in this cartridge.
