View Full Version : Whats a good mold for a 375 H&H?

I just got a CZ 550 in 375 H&H and at some time would like to shoot lead boolits from it. I'm thinking something in the 300gr would be nice for plinking. Also if anyone has one they would like to part with let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Handloader's Digest 1997 16th edition page 168 by Andrew Lambley. Good groups with the NEI 280-375 GC and the plain base version. He also tried the copper tubing drive bands. I could try to send a copy to you if you like but there are no promisses, as I am no computer whiz. JETWRENCH

I've used the 250 grain gas check Lyman (short nosed flat point) to bang a few rabbits (overkill?) and it shot quite reliably.

Thank you both for the post.

I'll look into the NEI 280-375 GC, as its not far from what I want to shoot. Also leftiye the 250gr would be easy to plink with and would take anything I would want to hunt in MO. But for the most part I like to target shoot/plink with big bore's.

I may have to buy a mold soon as J bullets are getting sky high in that cal.

I would call SIerra first. They have not had much the last few times I stopped by, might save you a trip?

I used to use a Ohaus 887 mould for my 375 uses, its ~250 gr if my memory serves me right. Still have the mould (and no 375s to use it in) so if you are interested, I could part with it.

Explorer1, I'll pm you and we can talk about it.

Hackleback, Thanks for the boolits, Speer manual and lube.

Yes I need to pick up a few seconds for my 375H&H/500S&W and a few others.

Tim.

P.S. Don't tell anyone here I shoot J bullets at times... [smilie=1:

I have a Lyman 375249 (IIRC) that is in decent but not mint condition
that is too small diameter for my .38-55. Double cavity, can show
pix if you are interested. About a 250 gr FP - working from memory
here - like working without a net.

Of the many boolits tried two have become favorites in the H&H. A 320gn from NEI cant remember the#, and a 350gn LFN from LBT. Both are capable of outstanding accuracy. Jr. used the NEI w/o check in a 38/55 roller to place in the top junior shooters at the Amidon ND long range buffalo shoot. Its just a well designed boolit.
The 350gn LBT is a serious hunting boolit.

I got some boolite like mold MtGun44 has and well try them as soon as it warms up a bit.

Tim

P.S. MtGun44 if they shoot well you may be out of a mold... :)

I've had my best results with the Lyman 375449 bullet. It is a gas check design. I shoot mine with the g.c. When cast from an alloy that is 50/50 Pb/WW, they drop out @ 276 gn. nominal. Out of my old Mauser, I've gotten my best groups with Blu Dot and WC-846. Velocity with both runs 1800 fps or so sized .377, NRA/alox lube.
Hope this helps...

I second (or third or fourth) the vote on Lyman 377449. It is an excellent design for the 375 H&H and I use it quite a bit for practice and have killed a couple elk with it.
