Anyone ever use cast bullets in a Contender carbine chambered in Remington 6.8 SPC? Any ideas on what mould to use?

Depends on the twist, but most 6.8 barrels are intended for a max of about 130 grains, and often happier with 115 to 120 (at least with bullets). Lyman 280468 Loverin RN GC (109, 114 gr), 280473 125 grain SP GC would be two possibles. YMMV.

6.5mm is .264 diameter, 7mm is about .284, 6.8 is about .277, and 270 is...277. Ed's right on weight-wise; be sure and double-check the mold diameter, in order to avoid disappointment.

I once had a 6.5/30 JDJ, a similar cartridge to the SPC, and it was quite at home with slugs ranging from 100-140 grains. I tried some Lyman cast in it, I don't recall the mold #, but they shot fairly well with 2400 and a little load work. Of course, these were mid-range loads, you would want to try a different powder for some hotter ones.

T/C factory 6.8 barrels have a 10" twist and I believe the it will stabilize 150 grain at cast velocities. I have a 6.8 barrel but as of yet do not have any moulds or gas checks for .270 caliber so no actual cast experience with it. It is on my todo list but right now it's a ways down after several other projects and may not get to it until winter.

I've had good results with 9.0 gr of TrailBoss around 1100fps just for fun leaving the gas check off and faster smack with gas check and better accuracy using 21.0 gr Benchmark using both older Ideal 280412 mold at ~132 grain and Saeco 270GC truncated cone, bore rider bullet at ~140 grain. Enjoyable shooting with my old TC Contender out to 250m gong, it doesn't beat you up, yet you can see the dirt move when you miss. Need to work on an intermediate 5744 load, unless someone has already worked this out.
