Guys I have a nice RCBS 55gr FN GC mold and would like to cast for a 1-16 hornet.I fear 55gr is a little much for that twist. What I'am planning to do is chuck up that mold in a lathe and take enough off the top to remove the GC heel and reduce its weight.Anything wrong with my plans?? Thanks Frank C.

I have a clone of your mold from the NOE group buy. It is a great boolit but it is to LONG to stabilize in my Stevens 322 K - Hornet 1 x 16 twist. The boolit is just to long. it will shoot great in 1x14 but 1x16 is not going to happen. This is the only boolit that 5 for 5 hit the 27 yard target all perfectly sideways. Fortunately I had a piece of 3' sg. cardboard up. Your mileage may vary, but I doubt it.

PS: go down to the venders section and get one of these "NOE 225107 37Gr. FN" he has a couple left. You will find this little Pill shoots great in 1-16.

I also have a cherished, BRP 6 cavity 46gr FN mold that is my Hornet Boolit. Unfortunately BRP is not making molds at the current time :-( Bruce is already missed!

I just filed the GC heel off one of the boolits can get it down to 45gr. but the legnth is still 5.25" may still be touch and go on stibility just have to try it.I know 40 gr will fly true with 1-16 look at rimfires. Frank C.

So far no one I know of has had any luck shooting plain based 22 any faster than a 22 rimfire.

My 2 cent advise would be swap the mold for one that will work instead of destroying it by removing the gas check shank.

+1 on this advise. The Lyman 225438 shoots well in most any 16" twist Hornet I've tried it in.

2 cents? Actually that advise is worth every dime the cost of the mold.

Rather than remove the GC shank, I'd measure the meplat of a 225107 Lyman and open the nose up to that diameter. Then come back and plug the open nose with an attachable plug of that diameter.

This will give you a GC'd design similar to the Lyman 225107. The GCs seem to shoot better.

First, I'd give the Lyman 225438 a try. It shoots well in my M77 Hornet and if that shoots well, have buckshot to HP it with a .090" diameter HP pin./beagle

Thanks guys I'll take your advice and leave the mold unmolested.I do have a Lyman 225438 if the 55gr. won't stablize I'll drop back to the 438 and keep the checks. Just like a flat boolit nose. Frank C.
