I've done searches of "How to make shooting sicks" and come up with nothing I'm looking for. I'm going to use them for shooting my Sharps at my local matches. I know I've run across this somewhere before but just can't remember where. You guys know what kind I need so if you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thank you

I made mine using a couple of 48" 3/4 inch hardwood dowels and some leather boot laces to lash them together. I read a book a long time ago showing a certain way to tie the leather lacing so it almost makes a hinge and won't slip down the dowel. they seem to work, although I don't shoot matches or anything. I am at work so I can't post up a pic. I'll try to post one tomorrow.

If you're going to use them in a match......................

NRA Silhouette Rule book states:
5.2.1 Artificial Support for Black Powder Cartridge Rifle--Artificial support for Black Powder Ctg. Rifle only shall be in the form of approved design crossed sticks constructed of two wooden legs, no greater than 1 inch by 2 inches in thickness and width or 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and bolted or tied so that the two legs are hinged and capable of pivoting. The end of the legs may be equipped with spikes no more than 3 inches in length and no wider than the edge of the crossed stick. They may be inserted into the ground by hand pressure only to aid in retention of an upright position. This may be waived by the Match Director to fit local conditions. One layer of protective material may be suspended or inserted in the " V " of the crossed sticks to protect the rifle. All cross sticks will be certified.

Varmint Al has a page showing how to build a set of stick.

Third (bottom) legs from a pair of wooden crutches will get you started. Lots of adjustment holes. Glue on a few strips of leather to rest the gun on and drill the bottom for the insertion of a large steel spike. Use a carriage bolt and wing nut through the adjustment holes.

+1 for the Varmint Al page. The crutches idea sounds awesome.
