Brass for .308

Besides the 5.7x28...which I have exactly 3 of...is anyone using other brass for making .308 besides a multi-step down 9mm to 3.08? I'm going to start saving some brass up to hopefully make some .308's when I can get a set of .308 dies from BTSniper. I have a 5 gallon bucket full of odds and ends...but like I said...only THREE 5.7x28.

EDIT: My intention is to make 149-150gr for my Ishy Enfield .308.

Well, obviously the trick is finding a brass size that is close enough to .308 that it doesn't require a ton of effort to push into final size. .38 specials might work well if you're willing to trim off the rims on a lathe, or cut them off with a saw, and then reduce size down.

The better option might be to go with the brass or copper tubing set up, and make virgin jackets from tubing. Brian and Ammosmith have both demonstrated that tubing jackets are very possible.

I have a bunch of people collecting 5.7X28 brass for me, and I have about 750 pcs so far (3 months). Spread the word, you might find some out there. You can always find people who have that brass, who might be willing to trade with you for something else that they need.

If you shop around, you can find once-fired 5.7X28mm brass for pretty reasonable prices. Otherwise, the copper (or brass) tubing might be the way to go. I intend to try both methods when the time comes.

If he's having trouble finding 5.7 X 28 brass, he'll not do any better with the 4.6 X 30. Just saying.....

That would work too. Seems like there is always someone looking for good carbine brass though. Bet you could sell it for more then a dime a piece and cover cost of commeriacl jackets if you wanted.

That won't work... You have to send it to me...

(I have one of those.. as well as a 5.7X28.) Making bullet jackets out of both of these is a sacrilige, and will not be tolerated... (except when the shoulder splits, and then you have to trim them down... for the jackets) I have a few of those, but don't have a 270 sizer die to push them through.. and haven't made a sizer for them... yet..

the 5.7X28's can be used to make .308 jackets without doing any cutting whatsoever.

can 32ACP cases be used?

I'm exploring this forum to determine if its worth investing in the dies and time.

I'm focusing on 30 cal and 22 cal at the moment so this thread is interesting.

32 ACP cases are a bit small for .308 bullets. I guess if you wanted to make 80 grain bullets it might work....

.22 Hornet, 218 bee, probably any 32 cal. pistol cartridge... (32 Short Colt, 32 S&W, 32 H&R Magnum, 32 S&W Long)

Just make a die that sheers off the rim.
