What would cause up to a 15 grain difference in weight in a 530 gr. postell 45 cal bullet? could there be that large of a void? what would be an acceptable weight difference?
Thanks
Nick

That's only about 3%. Mould & alloy temp could be the culprit. Those big moulds heat up pretty fast.

Oooh Yeah! I've seen some HUGE voids. Cut a couple in two and see.

I noticed a diameter diference that corrisponds with the weight difference. Caqn this be from casting with a hot mold?

Consistancy and technique in casting will minimize voids and weight variance. They will not eliminate either, BUT- the most weight variance I have ever had with a 500 grain or heavier was 3 and a half grains, and I bottom pour and I cast as hot as I can. Just my opinion.

I think there must have been something holding the mold open (kind of like beageling) the bullet s that were hevier were 2 thousandths over and were hard to chamber. I will check weights and diameters next time I cast.
