I threw together a new load for my 30-06 from what I had on hand for last months cast bullet rifle silhouette match. The load was the Saeco 165 grain bullet with 30 grains AA2495. The bullet fit the bore perfectly and I expected it would shoot and it did seem to shoot well from offhand. I missed a bunch of targets but it was cold and raining so I blame the weather! I kept five rounds to put on paper and did that yesterday. I had intended to test them at 100 yds. but it was very windy and I decided to move the target to 50 yards. As I went out to move the target the wind moderated but I went ahead and moved it anyway. I did get the five rounds off before the wind got vicious again.
The first three cut a cloverleaf. I got excited when I saw that and forgot what I was doing and the next two opened the group to .7". I think what I did was the first three I was holding the forend loosely and the last two I held the forend tightly. I caught myself doing it but I wasn't concentrating very well in the cold and wind. The wind was also picking up again and that may have contributed but I really think it was just poor bench technique. That load is a keeper!
