Ya'll can start a car picture thread down in off topic if you guys want, this thread is for loading bench pctures. I'm digging the car pictures, but not everyone is (yes, we actually got a complaint).

well with that said would this worthy of a sticky?

This my firearms hauler!

Nice rides.

I wish I had kept a 1952 Jag XK120 fixed head coupe that I had in high school. Brit rides were cheap back then (mid 60's). I paid $400 for it and it was in great shape including wood and leather. That car would likely be worth a few hundred thousand in the same shape today. If one had only known! I do not think that I have a picture of it but I will ferret around.

I think this thread is worthy of a sticky myself, as it seems almost all of us enjoy cars, trucks, boats, planes, trains, horses, motorcycles, or whatever gets your hindparts from point A to point B.

Edit.
I have brought this to the attention of the rest of the staff here, on moving this thread to the Our Town section, and making it a sticky, we'll see where she goes from here.

Here is one of my rides, 1939 John Deere model A. The single front wheel makes it a N so it's a AN. It was sitting in a barn for years and I had to clean the fuel system, change all the fluids and some other tinkering. It operates at 975 RPMs, starts and runs good and its running in the picture.

They made tons of these in many configurations, promised parts for 50 years and you can still get parts from the dealer.

Here is Farmall M setup for farm stock tractor pulling. The engine has more displacement, a later model head, pulling cam, electronic ignition and some work to make it lighter. I've pulled from 5000LB to 7000LB. It doesn't do too bad, recently got 4th place against some bigger $ engines. It's a game of balance and traction.

..............When my daughter was 16 I realized she was no longer a child. While we had horses and went on many rides and camping stuff, plus did lots as a family, I thought she and I needed a project we could work on together. Generate some solid life memories I guess.

http://www.fototime.com/5C9A0B361993805/standard.jpg

This was the result. We bought it for $1200 and drove it home. The window glass was down inside the doors, the doors were held shut with bungee cords hooked from the door handles to the glove box opening. It had a really tired old Ford 352 Y block and granny 4 spd trans, with the shifter up through the floor, and dual glass packs under the running boards. The original front end was shot and the steering box was loose as a goose. To complete the carnival, it smoked like you were fogging for mosquitos :-) You could turn the steering wheel a good 270º before anything happened and if you hit a bump the old pickup would take off in another direction.

I wished we'd have had a video of that trip home (all surface streets) as we laughed and giggled the whole way :-). When we had to stop at a light the smoke we'd laid down would catch up with us and add to that we were generating just sitting there. Once home and parked I went in to get Donna to come out and see it. When we went back out each exhaust pipe had a rather rapid steady stream of oil dripping out.

In the course of time we took it completely apart, all the way down to the chassis. Believe it or not I sold that old Y block and trans for $500 to a guy who wanted them for his early 60's Ford Pickup. The pickup was basically very straight and had a lot of parts like door handles, strike plates, and other details which will really eat up the budget. We refurbed each part. What we did to it was to have a Chrysler Volare front end grafted on, power steering, added power brakes, a BMW hood tilt kit, all new tinted glass, all new polished stainless windwing and window trim, body panel beading, clear red oak bed with polished stainless strips and bolts, new Ford 9" 3.90 rear end, shucked the stock rear springs and installed reversed eye smoothies. New stainless side mirrors, headlight and turn signal trim and new tail lights with FORD trim and blue dots.

http://www.fototime.com/6185F78098297DC/standard.jpg

The sunlight washes it out but the upolstery. Christian picked it all out and was all gray tweed with matching door panels. The carpeting was black and wrapped the entire cab interior from the firewall, under the seat, and up the rear cab wall and overhead. The steering column was a tilt & telescoping unit from a '78 Caddy. I made the replacement dash panel out of aluminum. It carried the speedo, volt, fuel, oil press, and oil temp guages. I also made the aluminum column bracket which carried a trans oil temp guage and tach. Christian was a bit dismayed to find out we weren't going to have air conditioning :-) Simply wasn't in the budget.

A couple years earlier my grandmother decided she didn't need to be driving any longer so she gave us her 1969 Ford LTD they'd bought brand new and in 1995 it still only had 65,000 miles on it. So we snagged the 429 V-8 and C-6 trans out of it for the pickup. Donna said she didn't think Christian's pickup needed a V8, but I explained there simply wasn't any money to buy a different engine and trans. Oh darn! [smilie=l:

Since it was out hanging on the hook I HAD to do SOMETHING to it (you understand?). So I went over to Waynes Engine Service in Riverside to talk to their Ford guy. He asked what I was doing with it and I explained it was going into a 55 Ford pickup my daughter was going to use for a daily driver. He said heck it already had 360 hp, but if you bring in the heads for $150 he'd port the exhaust side (they have mongo huge big round intakes) and it'd give me another 35 horses, so I did that. We then put on an Edlebrock street manifold and used the original 4 barrel carb. Custom headers were horrendously expensive (everything is for big block Fords) so we had the muffler shop mate up 2.5 pipes with dual Flowmasters and turned the exhaust out in front of each of the rear tires. We installed a new repro 4 row Ford radiator with an electric fan for it, and a seperate electric fan on the trans cooler. Even on a hot day running 35-40 mph the fan wouldn't ever turn on. That radiator cooled like an Indiana winter!

Christian drove the truck about 4 years going to college and her job. Sometimes when she'd go to town and come out of a store there'd be a couple guys looking at it and when they found out it was hers they usually wouldn't want to talk to her about it. She got pulled over 3 times by cops but not for tickets. They just wanted to see the truck (and her I guess). Never did have a problem with those blue dots on the tail lights. When she got her job as a forensics investigator with a local PD and then got married she decided she needed a more practical car. She was always afraid to park the truck on the street or take it to the beach. Lemme tell ya, when you stepped on the loud peddle it'd flat scat, and both she and I got in trouble with Donna and my mother a few times  Neither of us ever got a ticket but it was sure fun tootleing down the road in it. Christian says if she EVER sees another piece of sand paper it'll be too soon.

http://www.fototime.com/BA8C4739724D9C0/standard.jpg

And my FINEST project, and Donna's too. A wonderfull child and a magnificent woman and mother herself now.

This is Hardly Abelson, the real one. I built it in a motel room where I was living. See, some public defender in Ohio talked me into pleading guilty to a DUI. Said the judge was going to take it easy on me. I was sitting on private property, had enough sense to not go anywhere. Turns out the state has no authority to enforce traffic laws on private property, and that operation involves causing movement of the vehicle. I may have been snoring hard enough to cause movement! Take it easy! He took my license for 10yrs, threw me in jail right away though I was going to college, fined me out the wazoo. Anyway, here in IN, you don't need a license for a motorized bicycle and I built Hardly to get me back and forth to work for awhile. Only problem with it was the paper thin tires, always getting flats compliments of tire wire along the road. I put plastic liners in that helped some, but not enough. It's sitting on the front porch with a flat now. Oh, it'll go around 40mph.

If some kind soul could move one of the pictures over to this thread, it would save a lot of 'clicking' (hint, hint)!

Click on the first photo you see, which will enlarge it. Then each of the smaller photos will be enlarged in turn as you click on it. I can safely say that it will out-weigh "hardly Abelson"! Comparing the gas mileage would be an entirely different matter, however.

I use to Bracket drag race almost every weekend. Now that I've gotten older I just attend a couple of races a year with a few other "seniors". We have been attending the "Super Chevy Show" and the "Old Geezer's Race" at the Maple Grove Drag-way in Reading Pa since we slacked down on our schedule for the past 5 yrs. She still puts a smile on my face that an SOS pad would be hard pressed to take off. The photo below is a starting line photo from 2008. It was the first race I attended after putting the new motor in it.
She went 10.37 at 128.74mph on this pass.

I may be getting older but I hope I never grow up !

Many thanks for moving the photo over here!

I haven't driven a Deuce in fifty years or so, but I'm REALLY looking forward to getting my hands on this one. 5-speed tranny and 2-speed transfer case will keep the clutch foot busy, I dare say.

It's a "bobbed" 6x6, wherein the rear-most axle is removed and the bed suitably shortened. It makes about the biggest 4x4 "pickup" imaginable. The bed is about 56" above ground, and the tires are 49" in diameter.

9.3x62Al has christened it, "The Hummer from Hades" (polite version) and I suspect that name may soon be painted somewhere on the rig.

The trains aren't mine, belong to a friend of my dad's who has them on a ranch. 1.25 miles of track, 9 inch gauge, each loco weighs about 800 LBS dry, probably closer to 1800 LBS including water, tender, and engineer. Grew up around those since I was 2, always had a blast with em. They'll pull about 8000 LBS up a 4% incline, thats the max. We just finished rebuilding the 2nd one with the diamond stack.

Yep, the Lotus will never win any accolades for being comfortable; it is really just a street legal race car. I've never done any straight line timing events so I don't know its 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, not that it is lightning fast anyways. It is made to handle the curves. I have taken it to the track (road course) a number of times and it is just a riot. I rarely commute in it - it is mostly for the moutains and track days. Needless to say, I don't use it to go shooting, no where to put any guns or ammo :)

Old Faithfull, my 95 Z71. This has been the best truck I have owned thus far. 146,000 miles, original motor and trans, when I broke the 10 bolt rear the third time it went in the trash and the truck got the light duty 3/4 ton diff (because it still has 6 lug axles). It has bigger axles, ring/pinion, housing, brakes etc. ten bolts are barely strong enough for the stock 31" tires much less 35's and an agressive posi-traction. It's not the fastest but I don't have to worry about getting where i'm going.

Both of these pics were taken at the same place, the rear tire in the second pic a actually stuffed up in the wheel well far enough that it rubbed the paint off the inside.

My rides,. A 1991 Suzuki GSXR 1100, and a 1965 Chevy step side truck.

I ride the motorcycle on the weekends, when it isn't raining.

Rest of the time it's truck season.

Both have carburetors, not fuel injection. That way I can still work on em.

Cool bike. But a really cool truck.

A recent issue of Hemmings Classic Car magazine contained an article about the 60-66 Chevy trucks. The article indicated that those years pick-up's are commanding respectable prices on the collector market.

Very nice.

It will arrive here at its new Nevada home either Tuesday or Wednesday. Make sure you click on the photo to get the full benefit.

This was a pretty huge leap of faith on our part. We bought this rig sight-unseen, based on the excellent photos on Ebay and the impeccable reputation of the seller. You could say that I am VERY CURIOUS to behold the critter in the actual flesh.

Hmmm....well, the ring mounts are available, and I have all the tooling for loading .50BMG, and I REALLY like the M2HB machine gun....all I'm lacking is about $20,000 to buy it. Maybe next week?

As I write this, the truck transporter is on I-80 and less than 50 miles from home. The rest of this dayshift is going to pass VERY slowly.

Been doing this every Tuesday for the last 10 years. Before this village was Huanca but that was going north into wetter areas.

1999 vintage Vauxhall Frontera B.

Brought it reasonably priced, almost cheap, last April but boy has it swallowed some money since. Darn head gasket blew and cost a fortune to fix so it's had so fa:-

Oil & filter change, new aux drive belt, air filter
Head re-surfaced, new gasket set, new water pump, cam belt and followers, set of hyraulic lifter, (16 of them)
New radiator
Brake fluid changed
new clutch master and slave cylinders
new centre and rear exhaust boxes

Engine is a 2.2i Litre DOHC 16V petrol X22SE.
trans 5 speed with 4x4 on the fly transfer box with hi/low. Axles I believe are danners. Coil springs all round with discs all round.

I have the factory driving lamps to fit just need to make up a bar to hold them the factory "A" bars are too expensive plus I have a couple of nice off road chrome spots I want to add. The driving lamps are factory wired to come on with main beam. The spots I'll have on their own switch so can have just them on.

Oy es ahve to get new disc pads and possibly rotors for the rear and get the brakes firmer on the pedal. Very soft.

Over here it's called a Vauxhall Frontera, in Europe it's an Opel Frontera, in the US it's a Isuzu Rodeo or Honda Passport, in Australia it's a Holden Frontera and in Asia a Iszu MU [smilie=b:.

It's a 2005 Stella which is a Vespa, but made in India. It was a great scooter, but I went and screwed it up by changing the transmission to a 5 speed. Ended up trading it in on a vintage Vespa.

The top one is my 1914 Ford Model T Runabout. Back in 1984 I used to drive this almost every day, used it as my daily driver. As long as I started it at least once a day everything was fine, if I let it go much longer than that it got hard to start, and as my arm was the starter, I wanted it to start easily!!

The one below it was my father's 1913 Ford Model T Depot Hack. Unlike my runabout which was really built by Ford in 1914, this one was actually built in the 1950's (they called it a frame off restoration!) from a pile of parts. It was nicer looking than mine, but I hated driving it, as the steering was loose (worn out), and basically it ran poorly. My runabout OTH ran so good that the only time I would see the temp go up at all was during the summer, and down here in FL the summers are HOT!

One of these days I really want to get another Model T, they're lots of fun to drive, and fairly easy to maintain (if you keep it original). I think I'd want to get either a 1925 or 1926 model, as they were all metal bodied, had fancy things like electric starters, electric lights, and all sorts of other neat things! And today there are lots of reproduction parts available, much more than in the 80's when I had those (the depot hack was my fathers, but he didn't know how to drive it, so it was effectively mine!)

Here is my Dodge Coronet. It is a 68 R/T. The picture makes the car look like it is in better shape than it actually is. The vinyl top is shredded and the paint is pretty sad. It was originally a silver car and sooner or later it will be redone in its original color. It has factory electric windows, a rare option at that time. Right now it is being used as a storage shelf in the garage. Sad, I know. I'm having transmission issues and I have another car (posted earlier) that currently gets a great deal of my attention. The Dodge's engine (440) is still strong and reliable (it was my daily driver for a couple years) but the tranny issues have kept it garaged for a while now. Someday, I'll get off my butt and get the car restored to its deserved glory. Any tranny experts in the Denver area that would be willing to help me out with the transmission issues? I don't want to take it to a shop, I'd much rather have someone help me fix it so I can LEARN.

My everyday driver car now is a '01 Toyota Tacoma that I love, except for the mediocre power and mileage.

This was the latest photo I had handy, taken November '10. All damage was confined to grille and bumper and has been repaired to like new. 1995 Chevy S-10, 2.2L w/5 speed. Bought new in Feb. '95. Currently has 341,000 miles on original engine and trans. Trans is about to get some work, however.

No picture on this computer, but my to be restored ride is an 88 M5 BMW. At the time advertised as the fastest 4 dr sedan. I have had it since 2001, currently at 209,000 original engine and trans. Parked it when I was driving 125 miles a day and wanted the comfort of my 2005 GMC Sierra which is at 173,000 miles. Would love to find my 76 Cutlass Supreme Brougham w/455 and T tops, like a youngster, I sold it, to find out later just how rare that combo was...

Here's a SkillsUSA project we just finished. We got 99 out of 100 on our score. We frenched tailights, license plate box, and did a ton of welding and fabrication on it. We also fabricated a dash for it.

It is a 2/3 scale high boy, on a lawn tractor chassis, that was started by someone else. It was a great idea, but it was not even close to be finished out.

Not too shabby for a bunch of high school kids.

Above is the link to my original post in this thread. Below is what happens when someone impatient makes a left in front of you in a 3 day old Camaro. This happened last week. Totaled my truck, bent the frame pretty bad in the engine compartment, insurance says the frame is worth more than the truck. No one got hurt. I've had that truck for 12 yrs and would have liked to keep it another 12. My daughter was devastated, she will be 16 in May and that was going to be her transportation. Seeing the end result makes me want another one, I know it would keep her safe.

HollandNut,
Got my ‘56 in 1975 and that’s its serial number. It was given to a retiring biker leo as a gift by the town and hard times in his retirement forced him to have to sell it.

The ‘56 replaced my ‘57 I bought in ‘67. I had 1936 knuckle and I think that was the first V twin HD made. Enjoyed racing the 45” flathead trikes on the dirt and loved the tank shifters.

Thanks for igniting some memories.

This is my daily driver. 1968 Chevy Malibu 2 door sports coupe. My wife's aunt bought it new and drove it untill 1979. At that time my wife was expecting our second child and our only transportation was a Kawasaki moyorcycle. She took pity on us and said I could pay her $200.00 for the car on account. ( on account we were dirt poor, bring home pay was $75.00 a week ) She did us a really big favor that I'm still grateful for. I had to promise her I would take real good care of the car , she wanted it to go to a good home.
So for the past 33 years I have been keeping my promise. I drive it every day and when something breaks I get it fixed. 6 years ago we got new paint, Fathom Blue with a white top and new pearl seat covers , just like when new. The 307 V-8 has been modified just a bit, but that was necessary to keep it on the road. ( couldn't get leaded gas any more or a new 2 barrel carb. its got a 4 bbl. now ). Transmission is a 2-speed automatic Power Glide, that transmission is factory original and never been worked on or needed any repairs. About every 5 years I drain the fluid and replace it with fresh . And it doesn't leak any fluids on the driveway like some older cars. My only problem is trying to stay out of the path of all the idiot drivers we have around here, if I can keep her out of a serious wreck we will be o.k.
The photo's show the color as almost black but it is much prettier. It is a dark metallic blue , the metallic base coat has a rainbow metallic undertone with teal , reds , greens and golds . This color is not often seen as the lighter metallic blues are more common. This paint job also has a clear coat which seems to make it appear darker. It originally had a white vinyl roof but extreme rust under it caused that option to be removed and painted instead.

I had to sell it when I took a 6 figure pay cut out of jealousy and power trip of others. I will get another one in a year or so I hope. I still have all of the fishing stuff. LOTS of stuff. When I cleaned it out I had 25 rod and reels in it. One for dang near any application I needed. I spent quite a bit of time on the water in that rig and it even had satellite stereo. The first Christmas Day I had it I was on South Holston Lake in TN and was running 66 mph thru light snow. I changed out the CPM on the motor from 250 to 350 and it would run in the low 70's. I wore a helmet if running over 60 because my eyes would water.

I've never fished South Holston. Is that a white bass lake?

Beau Cassidy
01-10-2013, 12:15 PM
I have never caught a white bass out of there but I am sure there are some there. I hear it is a killer smallmouth lake. Somebody caught a 9 lber a few years ago fishing docks. I personally have never had good luck there. Also, there have been some vehicle break in problems at one of the main ramps. Since it is so far out in the county the SO doesn't patrol out that way much and the mongrels know it. The lake is very deep and clear. I have seen 202 ft depth at one spot on the south end of the lake.

My other vice is that I am a '60's "Blue Oval" fan ...
Our 1968 Mustang "GT/CS" California Special is one of 111 made that year with an "S" code 390 big block and four speed. I love this car ... it makes me into a teenager again!

Our second '60's Mustang is a '65 Mustang Fastback that I have owned for 33 years as of this coming September. It was a 289 with a four speed, but we're rebuilding it into a GT350 Shelby clone with the original 289 rebuilt to Shelby specs at just over 300HP and we're adding a 5 speed T-5 trans for better highway cruising. It will be white with the traditional blue racing stripes of course. Right now it is torn apart into a million pieces, but hopefully it'll be finished up sometime later this year and when it's all done it will look exactly like this beautiful Shelby!

Seeing your Mustangs brought back memories of my teen years. In 69 my buddies were driving Mustangs and I picked up a mint 67 Fairlane 500 GT 390 4 speed. I used to race and beat my buddies 68 390 4 speed Mustang until he topped me with a 67 Fairlane 427 4 speed. I couldn't beat that. Ah those good years of .23 a gal premium gas and cheap tires. I've never stopped missing the car as it was part of my youth but I never gave up the thrill of speed. My current toy is a 1993 Z-28 Camaro 355 6 speed with a D1R procharger running 18 lbs of intercooled boost. Its a nice little low ten second ride in the 1/4 at 138mph.

i have an 01 turbo beetle, there are few corvettes that can beat me :)
it looks like all the other new beetles and is lemon yellow as yellow is my fav color.

i doubt many people here are into tuners so i wont bore ya with specs :)

my 1st car was a 66 chevelle. my G-ma bought it for me at a garage sale on my 14th b-day. it wasnt very pretty but it ran.
she called me and had me ride my bike 6 miles to meet her. i got there and she said "do you like it" i was enthralled and then she said "good, happy bday" she let me drive it home that day.
i spent the next 2 years working on it almost daily. hand sanded the whole thing.
an uncle that was a painter for 60 years painted it for me. was metallic electric blue.
i spent the next 6 years putting money into that car. seemed she hated me. however i loved her and did all i could for her.
i had a yellow lab named max at the time. he rode shotgun while my friends sat in the back :)

i sold her when i was 24

her name was "betsy" and i miss her ALOT

my 1st set of tires lasted 2 days

My 87' Toyota Supra turbo. I built it from a sad $1000 pile of parts. It's got a motor from a Japanese market Toyota Soarer. Right now I'm making around 440hp (haven't got it on the dyno yet since the second turbo upgrade). It's hot road black for now, but I'm hoping to get some nicer paint on it once I move out of town and get a garage. So far in the past two years it got hit by two hail storms.

Here's a project I am doing with my students at school. To make a long story short, we started with a refrigerated cold box, a pile of steel and a pile of 65 mustang parts. We built the car around the cold box. It is going in the cafeteria in another high school. It will hold milk and juice boxes.

Here's the space.

We painted the hood on the back wall.

Longshot,
Nice bike. I looked long and hard at the Streetfighter. I couldn't justify the purchase since my bike is in excellent condition and I have no real reason to part with it. I really like the performance and riding position of the Ducati. I've always been a sport bike rider (pilot) but as it sometimes does, life has gotten in the way and I haven't been riding as much as I used to. Nonetheless, I recently moved and now have a whole new area to take the bike out and explore. When my current bike (Yamaha R1) gets boring or whatever other excuse I can come up with, I'll sell it and find a nice Streetfighter. Ride safe.

Both are great rides. Im level 2 certified ducati technician and have ridden tons of them. I prefer the 848 SF over all the ducs - besides a multi 1200. Such fun in the turns with tons of torque. The 1098 SF is like riding on the back of a gorilla, very powerful and quite scary at times!!

Greetings from Arequipa, Peru.
My photos dissapeared from a couple years ago of my rides so decided to do it again.

First up is our "going to meeting" vehicle. 1987 Suzuki "Sammy" military model. Nearing 109,000 miles so still barely broke in. Will go up and over everything I have ever locked the hubs to do. Drive it mainly on Thursday and Sunday for church services (wife just does not like that wind blown affect on those days). Also gets used for hauling visitors about to villages where we work. We are the second owner since January 2004. Peruvian Airforce was 1st owner and was painted sky blue.
793897939279390

Second is my daily rider Bought new in 1992 Yamaha DT 175 and still a 2 cycle. Nearing 400,000 kilometers and on the third piston. I used to ride this to high mountain villages but no longer do so as God provided the following and 3rd in line.

1994 Kawasaki. We are the 3rd owner. Purchased from a mine worker 8 years ago. This is my work vehicle. It goes to the mountain villages, rural churches and hauls tools. No longer a 200 KDX since 10 weeks ago. Needed an new piston but there are none here anymore. All engine parts had to be ordered from the USA and it was getting awful with shipping and custom fees. So finally pulled the 200 and placed a new 250 4 stroke on the frame. The green washtub (doubled) bolted with steel plate on the rear is how I haul whatever I need with me for the day.

If you look there is a pretty good load of wood in the back and all four tires are chained up. Thats one of the better spot on the road where i could still get out of the truck.

I use that road to gather wood, and hunting and am planning on setting a few traps
Down that way this winter. That truck guts used well, but i still try to take good care of it.

Here's some "rides".First is my "work truck" 2001 dodge. 276,000 miles on the ol 5.9L and still going strong. Next is Momma's toy. 06GT mustang. v8 5 speed, fast as all get out. I'm not allowed out unsupervised in it.(See following mustang comments) Next "Ride" was one of the coolest. Her name is Anna and she lives in RSA. Smooth ride as long as she gets some snacks regularly. The next pic was from way back when I started in the oilfield. it's in Dinosaur Colorado. Pretty good ride. I made it a full 8 seconds... Last is a 1965 mustang I had in 1990 while at Camp Lejeune. Did a horrible Dukes of hazard impression in it that ended badly for both of us.
