OL Deuce it's not mine. Don Brown an old drag racer purchased it new. He died a year or so back. His family sold it a couple weeks back. Could have had it for 30 grand.

I did feel good sitting in it though.

I guess I will play. This is my daily driver:

http://fellingfamily.net/images/ram3500_sm.jpg

I bought this just over a year ago after replacing the rear diff in my wife's suburban. The failure was blamed on too many overloaded runs of lead. I did load it with about 2000-3000 lbs a couple times each year, but I am not sure I caused the diff failure.

But I am sure a 1 ton Ram wont' have an issue.

I don't think I posted this here before but my current project is this shortbed 1972 Chevy Cheyenne Super which came loaded with factory options including the 402 big block, automatic transmission, PS, PB, A/C, and tilt steering column. The original color combo was Tangier orange with a white roof (code 546) but was repainted in the Deluxe color scheme (code 594) when it was rebuilt. I bought it a few years ago from a guy in Virginia who he called it his ice cream truck because he used it for cruise-ins at the local Dairy Queen. My wife still swears she saw him cry a little the day I picked it up and since then the truck has affectionately been known as The Beast.

Unfortunately the original motor is gone but it has a 400 small block with long tube headers and Flowmaster dual exhaust. It has a 2/4 drop kit and since buying the truck I have added new wheels and tires, valve covers, plug wires/looms, a bluetooth radio with speakers, new chrome A/C vents, aftermarket oil pressure and water temp gauges, new locks, fuel line, refinished the original emblems, repaired the inner front fenders, rewired the entire front end, added an electric fan, swapped in an original tachometer gauge cluster and some other stuff.

This truck is mostly a garage queen so about the only thing it ever hauls is a**. My wife refuses to ride in it until I fix the air conditioning system so that is the next big project. I am also looking for a donor bed to replace the bed floor which is rusted through in several places. Eventually I need to recover the seat with the correct houndstooth pattern. At this point my biggest limitation is money but we all know how that goes.

This is my 1994 Ford F-350 5.8L square body 4x4. Hard to find a four door with a full eight foot bed in it these days. Lots of new parts and maint needed from all those who owned it before and did not bother to take care of it as required. But it is a project ongoing and I am having fun getting it back in the shape it should be in. Use it for hunting, hauling firewood and the weekly loads of stuff from Wally world too.

I had a 59 rag top with red leather back in 1969, cost me 400 bucks, drove it for one summer, got rid of it cause I could not keep second gear in the tranny. Boy, wish I had kept it now huh. I know what you mean about previous owners not taking care of their rides, should be a law against it. lol

Not yet, Thanksgiving week slowing things down. Was supposed to be towed to the body shop yesterday (Terry Lebonte). Haven't verified that yet. Waiting till next week to get the rental car as insurance only pays for it for 30 days and I knew this week I wouldn't really need it and would be a waste. I'll be Deer hunting after today till the end of the weekend, have some payback on order...

We are guessing between $5-8K

We sold our highly modified 57 Chevy truck a couple of years ago...it was nasty quick and for old folks (late 70's then) it could be a little tricky...it went to Arizona where it's been winning trophies as I understand...we needed a "go get ice cream" car and love the 73 Cutlass body style and comfort so we bought a real beauty with factory air, etc...it's pristine and only has 70K original one owner miles....was in St. George Utah where rust is not a word in their vocabulary...we are 80 now and this feels much safer for us and for the folks that wanted to play..I just couldn't resist a good run with the truck.

I don't know how I missed that one!

I've wanted one since I was a junior in high school with the '86 model came out. I must have read this article 50 times:

http://www.buickhorsepower.com/blog/from-buick-with-balls/

I've gotten to ride in a few T-Types/GN's that were in the 10's and 11's, but not a single digit build. There's still a lot of them running those numbers though. Buddy of mine has a vinyl top column shift T-Type. LOL.

Nice ride!

Thank you!

It’s the third one I’ve owned over the years. Two 86s and this 87. It definitely isn’t hard to pull 9s with these cars. Pricey, but not difficult. It’s like the old saying goes, “How fast do you want to go? How much do you want to spend?”

I did most of the work to save where I could, but there’s still a slew of receipts that the wife hasn’t seen, or will EVER see. I make one pass a year at a local track, then they kick me out for no cage (I refuse to butcher the interior) and I wait 10-12 months and go back again. :)

308Jeff
12-25-2017, 01:38 PM
LOL. That's the way to do it.

Even though my stock G8 runs what a stock GN runs, it'll never be in the 9's. It takes a LOT of money to get these heavy pigs going that fast.

Merry Christmas to you.

Any LS powered sedan is pretty cool, though. My old CTS-V had a cam in it that was so lumpy it sounded like a drunken horse walking down a cobblestone street. They’re fun cars. G8 is about the same thing without the overpriced Caddy price tag.

Like your vintage Toyota!

It would get you there and back, I will say that, but oh it would and could mess up your back. Seven leafs on each spring over every wheel. Only rode well if you had it loaded up to the hilt with camping and back wood hunting equipment, otherwise it was a very stiff ride unless you wanted to pull some of the leafs out, but then the result was you had a four wheel back country terror tamed down to only drive the paved roads. That is why I had a car.:bigsmyl2:

I love mine, it’s a 2016. Just turned 23k on it, not an issue. I still have the original tires, good for road but the mesquite will make quick work of them. I put duratracs on, good for the SW.

Lots of folks have done just that. But,......you will have to change out all the trans/transfer box, rear and front pumpkin gearing to new ratio in order to really use the extra hp of the eight block. The 40 was made for incredible torque at very low rpm with the ratios the manufacturer put in all the power transfer points for a very good reason. 4 wheel, low gear transfer, 1st gear at idle will walk up a 26 degree hill while you walk beside it holding onto the steering wheel. Had mine for 27 years. Custom milled head, custom stelite oversized truck exhaust valves, hardened steel valve seats, chevy valve rotator's installed, custom tuned header, re-jetted carb, upgraded coil, braided water and oil line hoses, and full time hubs. Was punching close to 200 hp when done. Could never use all the hp I got, but low end power was something to behold. Anyone who has ever been down to Rock Point in Mexico and know about the "HILL" just south of Sandy beach can just imagine at midnight cranking it into low range, starting off in second gear, with Duran Duran screaming in the speakers and this machine screeming up that sand hill to the top in less than fifteen seconds....well it was quite a rush to say the least. Just plain something that stays with ya. lol Went wherever and whenever I wanted to, and never left me to walk out......... ever!

The 1973 Dodge Dart. It was born a 318 car with factory air, automatic and power disk brakes.

Sitting next to its big brother at a Year One car show.
262745

One of my Dodge Dakota work trucks in the background.
262746

Some minor cosmetic pieces on top of a 318 punched out to 340 and built for durability, not buying a new set of rear tires per week or breaking the NOS 727 automatic transmission and left the factory air conditioning as its hot during the summer in Georgia.
262747

Custom built subwoofer cabinet in trunk, rear deck had been cut for 6"×9" speakers in rear so just put best 6"×9"s I could.
262748

The 1973 FLH Shovelhead. A perfect example of if "it doesn't bleed it's not alive" AMF Harley as leave it sitting overnight and will leave an oil stain and has a pan under it in the garage. No sense in tearing down the bottom end of a Shovel if it's running perfect over a minor leaking seal between the crankcase and primary drive.

262750

The 1978 FLH custom Restomod built between rifle projects.

262752

The 2007 Road king

262762

that dart is cool too. One of my buddys in the service had a gts 383 dart.

OL Deuce it's not mine. Don Brown an old drag racer purchased it new. He died a year or so back. His family sold it a couple weeks back. Could have had it for 30 grand.

I did feel good sitting in it though.

man thats nice!! DETAILS!!!!

In decent condition when I got I drove it for a while then parked it. Family things kept putting off my doing serious work other than disassembly. Still the original 383 block and Torqueflite transmission although both completely rebuilt and improved. A lot of other parts replaced and improved, added rear disc brakes as the drums were gone. The color is HOK KBC05 Cobalt blue, clear coat, then polish. Bumpers rechromed and new aftermarket trim where needed. Pearl white top and interior. I mixed the dye lot and colored the carpet to match the non standard car color. Repainted all the old and replacement plastic with custom color as well. A lot of other small details, but it's an attention getter at shows. It's name is Deacon Blues, from the old Steely Dan song.

My last personal project. I needed a new winter beater.
81 diesel rabbit
Now has 1.6l turbo diesel which would have been a rare option in 83-84. It's about as correct as possible in the engine bay. Also has disc brakes all around as taken from a 16v scirocco. My first paint in the bay and fenders.
16 days after paint it was on the road. Rebuilt trans myself also. And the front nose is now a first generation Jetta with European lights.
Yeah paint don't match but it was $150gal with hardener.
Car was free.
Entire drive line is new or rebuilt with only $420 spent on parts. I have too many parts in the stash.
Paint supplies were another $750
Not bad for basically a New car. But it don't have a cupholder. :bigsmyl2:

In 1999, my wife wanted a truck, she bought a Great Dane,,
she hated the ride of the 1/2 ton, we ended up with a "snow plow package" Silverado 2500

Well, I decided I wanted a new truck in 2018, I went to buy a "white service truck",,,

I all but signed the papers on this one,,

https://i.imgur.com/TaPKgrb.jpg

Then, just before I agreed to buy, another salesman said "Did you show him the Alaskan?"

Well, we went and looked at it,, it was a no brainer,, the Alaskan was another "snow plow package " truck,,,

https://i.imgur.com/L7v3SGR.jpg

The Alaskan came with dozens of extras, tires, wheels, step, spray in bed liner, skid plates,,
and , later I found out it is equipped with the 3500, "ton" front end,,

The truck is a beast,

https://i.imgur.com/Xh7jyMN.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/NtzOoZW.jpg

So, for the exact same money, as the service truck, I ended up with the Alaskan,,

https://i.imgur.com/QoGVTvD.jpg

The 1999 has always been a great truck, but, now, it is a "trash run truck"

Here's my 1986 Jeep Wagoneer. Sure, it can't go over 55mph, but it's got all the torque and 4x4 you could want in less than fair weather. It sure is a beaut! Just don't look at the crash test results for models of Jeeps made on the same frame... Or look at the constant dribble of oil from the engine area, or the less than weather sealed interior....

277256

I can certainly say that this is one Luxury Jeep! It's got AC, Power Windows, and by far the fanciest Tape Deck I've seen in a ride! It's got Dolby Noise Reduction, push-button track switching, and even a Chrome Tape mode! It's certainly shown me just how Hi-Fi cassette tapes can get!

Dont believe I updated my rides for awhile. The Camaro is a 2020 ZL1 automatic 10 speed, came stock with a super charger and 650 hp/650 torque. She is a fun ride:) Just make sure it is pointed in the direction you want to go before pushing the go petal to the floor. Drive it easy and get 20-21 mpg around town and even better on a trip.

The truck is a 2021 GMC Denali with the 6.2 V8 and 10 speed auto, 4x4. Just bought it last month. Traded in our 2019 Ford Superduty. Owned the Ford for almost 2.5 years and dealer gave me $1500 more than what I paid for it plus almost $7K off the GMC. The Ford was so high the wife and I were having trouble getting in and out of it plus it was overkill for towing a 5,000 boat. Trip computer shows an average of 20.3 mpg since we bought it. Amazing for a pick up with a 420 hp V8. Only negative is it requires 93 octane fuel. Even more impressive is the ride. Never realized how rough the F250 rode until getting back into a half ton truck. I plan to add a folding or roll up bed cover in the near future. It is the first GM truck I have owned, if it treats me as good as my Fords did in the past I'll be happy.

I bought this for my wife on the day she decided to have DBS surgery for her Parkinson's. It was a clear, but pleasant day near the end of January 2016. It was her goal to be able to drive it after the DBS unit was implanted. That goal never came to pass, and she passed away the following November 4th. I have just kept the car as a sweet reminder of her, and I enjoy it.

The car is a 2004 Mercedes Benz 320 GLE. I drive it, maybe 1000 miles a year.

This is my daily around town ride in the warmer months, and my hunting rig until it gets too cold for no doors, (I'm working on some doors). It's a '47 CJ2a with some modern updates to make it acceptable to the wife and kids. Chevy 153 out of a '68 Chevy II, 4 wheel disc brakes, seat belts, real seats, heater, saginaw steering and a Warn overdrive so it will keep up with traffic on the two lanes.
I love this rig, primarily because there is nothing about it that I don't understand. I overhauled the transmission and transfer case, both axles and the brakes. I can't really lock it up, but it is very unlikely anyone under the age of 60 would be able to comprehend all four stick shifters well enough to drive off with it.294029

As I said, dumbest sport ever invented. The ice behind the boat goes for about 3/4-1 mile of glare ice.

1 O'clock this afternoon where that boat was sitting is open water.

With the forecast for the next couple of days I suspect that plate of ice will be in Canada shortly. But it should be replaced by new hard water by Sunday.

That boat is disassembled and piled in a buddy's front yard. His yard looks like an iceboat junkyard right now. Leave mine there and load up my daughter's boat and my little boat and head to an inland lake for the next couple of days.

This is the ride I spend most of my time on today, specifically selected for use on a tree farm, to get between planted pines. A 4x4 standard shift, 45 hp, with improved lift capacity and grapple strength. It is quite a tool and ride. I am now on burn pile 57 (forestry says max 8’x8’x8’) after the tornado took down over 200 twenty year old trees on our place, could not give them away, too many down in the area.

..............When my daughter was 16 I realized she was no longer a child. While we had horses and went on many rides and camping stuff, plus did lots as a family, I thought she and I needed a project we could work on together. Generate some solid life memories I guess.

And my FINEST project, and Donna's too. A wonderfull child and a magnificent woman and mother herself now.

How do I see pics of this truck? A lot of other posts say there are pics by I cant see them either.

My daily driver is a 1997 2-door Tahoe with the rear barn doors. They stopped making 2-doors in 1999, so these are a minimum of 25 years old now, and purely through attrition, they are getting scarce and harder to find. I bought mine last year from a local young man for just $7,000. And just last week I was offered $14,000 for it. No special lift or wild off-road accessories on it. Just a plain old stock specimen. Now that I'm 55 and survived a bad wreck 3 years ago with a spinal injury, I can't get up in anything lifted anyway, so this is just my speed. Anything that requires more ground clearance than this, I got no business fooling around with anyway. Besides, here in the desert, our main concern is sand. As long as I have wide footprint tires so I don't sink, and don't try to take on the talcum powder type of sand,...this will get me almost anywhere I dare to be stupid enough to drive.

And for the more adventurous jaunts into the brush, I've bot my Segway Fugelman UT10 SxS. With 1000cc, it even hauls my fat butt.

I used to have a 70' Chevelle. I dropped in a built 383 stroker with 500+ hp, built rear end, built transmission, and made a drag car out of it. Loved the hell out of it. Ended up selling it to a buddy of a buddy who wanted to do cruises with his Dad and he happened to own an hvac company and traded me for heating and a/c for my house and garage.

Fast forward a few years, he passed away from cancer. Turns out he knew he was terminal and wanted to cruise with his Dad before he passed. So the car definitely went to the right guy. He did a bunch of work to it, swapped a 6 speed into it, made it what I always wanted to but never had the time or motivation to do it.

I messaged one of his daughters last week saying I hope it stays in the family and they enjoy it like he did. My buddy who got me in touch with the guy originally hits me up two days later (she never even saw the message) to inform me they're selling the car.

So I'm going on Friday to look at and potentially buy back my 70' Chevelle. Even got the green light from the wife.

I'm pretty stoked and will definitely post pictures if I can get it back.

Yeah, if I had a chance to get that back I'd sure jump on it if it is at all affordable. Love those 70 Chevelles! I have one of the LS6 454's that were an option for that car I bought as a crate engine in 1988 from the local Chevy dealer. I put it in a 77 Trans Am.

I put a lot of blood, sweat, and effort into that car. It was an absolute blast to drive and was hell at the strip. Even just the opportunity to get it back has me very hopeful.

I like this. I have a friend, (in the interests of full disclosure, he is a mechanical engineer), who ran one of the '84 diesel rabbits 450,000 miles without any major overhauls. Just general wear items like brakes, wheel bearings, belts and tires.

I used to run those. My catastrophic failure was the pinion gear coming out of mesh with the steering rack when I was trying to turn in a 4-way intersection. Those were normally aspirated pure mechanical diesels except for the fuel shut off solenoid. They were slow, but 50mpg was possible. Then came the early TDI version & you got much better power with the same MPG. Then things got more complicated & performance suffered. Then diesel-gate happened & now VW will not import diesels to the US anymore.

Yep,...I'm seriously thinking about finding a VW 1.9l TDI and dropping that in my Samurai. They call that "The Axis Conversion". (You know,...because Japs & Germans together again?)

I bought this 1965 GTO from my brother in 1971. 53 years later it still looks like it will run 100 mph quarter mile. The Triumph is a 2002 Bonneville America, still looking like a classic. A 2002 Thunderbird, that looks like a classic and drives like a sports car should. Convertible with a removable hard top…

Until I get the Chevelle back home, here's the other fast car.

2015 Hellcat Challenger with a 6 speed. It should be illegal how fun this car is to drive. Now if I could figure out the wiring issue that kills the battery in 2 hours flat, I can start driving it regularly again.

Back in the Dark Old Days, when I was going to a trade school, we received a donation of a VW Rabbit diesel that had been to the Moon and back, several times. Body was falling apart, transmission was trashed. We put the engine on the stand for a class tear-down and re-assembly instructional aid. Once we had her guts on the bench, and began the inspection and measurement phase, we determined that all she needed was a new oil pump (just for peace of mind), new rings (cylinders still showed crosshatch) and new gaskets. Was my first introduction to aluminum crank bearing inserts: I'm sold on THAT method! :)
All in all, the Rabbit diesel is one tough beast!
