I've been shooting the E. H. Harrison/NRA 301618PP in my 30-06 bench rifle & sporterized '98 30-40 Krag, cast of WW +2% tin at factory velocities for years with excellent results. This Boolit is too long for the .308 I just acquired. WTB 301620PP, anyone out there have one they'd part with? Contact me off forum at barrett@ix.netcom.com.

Lots of luck. Been looking for a 301618 or 301620 for years now.

Another option to think about, is having Miha (Mihtec) make this type bullet in a 4-cavity brass mould. There's enough info in the NRA's Cast Bullet Manual to design one. I'd be interested in one.

Another option is Accurate Molds:

Tom does excellent work and reasonable prices. He does have to leave a small flat on the nose but he can make any size or shape you want other than that.

I made a push out mould with similar nose shape to the Lyman PP boolit moulds. It works pretty well in my .308 but not so good in my .303. I think I need a little more diameter to suit the larger .303 bore.

CBE I believe also makes a couple 30 cal. PP moulds.

Grinnin,

Youir email failed and so sending this here.

I'm interested how you patched them, alloy, BHN and load data for 30-06. I didn't patch mine in some test loads in 308 Win, vs non-PP bullets, soft vs hard alloy, lubed and non-lubed, gas check and no gas check and all were with 4064, not sure of powder or charge but MV was 1600 fps without filler and 2000 fps with Nabisco Instand Cream of Wheat, granulated filling the case. The case was not sized, only reprimed, add powder and bullet seated on top the COW for a bullet fit into the lands.

The PP bullets without patches shot accurately enough to hunt at 50 yds, all rds shot into a 50M dirt back stop, only some recovered. There was no fouling with any of the loads.

I wrote up this in The Fouling Shot many years ago. I hope to repeat the test with only the PP bullets, both of them, no way to size necks for them.

I have already figured out how to shoot cast bullets at max vel, even with nose annealed for hunting, no more hunting for me, disabled and even difficult to get any shop work done.

Slug your barrel. Size to BORE diameter +.001/.0015. Patch with 16# printer paper and let dry over night. Trim tails, lube and size to GROOVE diameter +.001/.003, or as large as will fit the throat. Pure lead works to around 2200fps, air cooled WW to near 2600fps and a BHN of 17 works to...well I havent found top end on them yet. I have best results using a powder that will give me as close to 100% load density as possible and still get the velocity I want. 3000fps and MOA accuracy is doable.
