A man I work with showed me his recent attic finds .One was a very old and odd 22 ,At least I think its a 22, has a 22 cal barrel .It has no markings or words or anything thing else on it from what I could see. It has no breach lock so to speak ,Just a heavy hammer that two ridges that run down the face of the hammer. I tried to insert a 22 shell into the chamber but do to rust I could just barely get the bullets nose in. Anyone have an idea what this is and approx. what age it may be? These two pics are all he sent me.

Thanks,Tim

Looks like a Flobert style. I had a .380 Rook in a very similar style to that. Belgium or France likely. Pretty tidy for an attic piece.

Yep, Flobert. Most likely chambered for .22BB or possibly .22CB caps, Not the current CCI or Remington CB Longs.

I would hihgly recommend they become wallhangers or safe queens.

I agree. I have a Flobert with a hinged breechblock and separate hammer. It will chamber a long rifle, but I would not dream of shooting one in it.

Thanks all, I relayed the info onto him,He has no intentions of firing it just wanted to know what it was. They sure went fancy on that trigger guard for it dont ya think!

Thanks again Tim

I would have said ugly trigger guard but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... ;-)

That was "the" trigger guard for flobert rifles.

The later ones used a separate swinging breach block and would be safe to fire with cb caps. this model should be hung on a wall, or if it must be shot, only after a thorough cleaning of the bore, and only with BBcaps.

I've always thought they were pretty neat myself.

It sure must be, Since I only ever owned "traditional" rifles with normal bow guards I thought it was quite interesting.

That said, if you want to see ugly rifles, drop round my place some time.
