I have some 1X fired LC 7.62 x 51 ( 308 ) brass that I want to load for my FAL
But someone borrowed my small base die ......keep getting promised he will bring it back next trip [smilie=b:

Rather than ordering a new Small base die
The local Gun Shop has a Lee 45 ACP Factory Crimp Die

Take the guts out and push the 308 brass through , just like I do with the 40 S&W

I am thinking it should reduce the case to min at case head where my regulare die's stop

Or am I out in left feild on this ?

I just went down and tried putting a 308 case through my 45 acp fcd. It just about fell through, took virtually no pressure at all and sized it not at all. I don't have a 308, the brass I have is just range pick ups, no idea what it was shot in.

The 45 case is .006" larger than the 308. You could probably make your own push through sizer if you had access to a shop. I have an old Herters die someone drilled and reamed out to roughly .470". I use it for that very purpose.
