I guess the title prety much says what I want.
Out of all you expierienced swagers, someone has this answer.
Who makes a swaging die that will squash a pure lead paper patch boolit of
500+ grains in one pass? I would like to do this on my RCBS Rock Chucker.
All help will be greatly appreciated.

littlejack,

Wow, that seems like a lot of "squashing" for a RCBS Rock Chucker. I can see how a Corbin press would be able to handle this but a Rock Chucker? Anybody else using a Rock Chucker for this purpose with success?

Martin, thats why i'm asking. I need to know if the RC will do the job.
These guys on this site should know.

You should have no problem with mashing some pure lead into a .45-70 slug. Pure lead is very soft and doesn't require a lot of pressure. All you need are the dies, the lead, and some lanolin for lubrication. Swage Away!

I this something you do rgularly with the RC press? Do you have the solid ram in the press?
Can you post some photos of your swaged boolits.

Anyone be willin to sell me some of their swaged pp boolits to try in my 45-70?
500 grainers would be a good startin place. I also have some swapping items you may want/need.

Does it need to be swaged? I only ask because I have a mold from Buffalo Arms that casts a pretty good boolit that for PP. If you order the mold from BACO, it will be in your hads much faster than if you order a swaging die from one of the Corbins (unless it is "in stock"). I don't know how this PP boolit does in my 45/70 yet, I have not had a chance to shoot it seriously.

Southern Son:
Not necessarally swaged. I am just checking all options for now. I am already set, and have been casting for 40 years. I would get a cast boolit mould if I had a chance to try some of the boolits out first. I do not want to go to the expense to find that my rifle does not like the particular boolit.
I would be willing to pay the postage and for your time and material if you would send some of your boolits.
Thanks for your reply.

Jack,
Mate, shipping lead is kind of expensive, especially when it gets sent halfway round the world. I am just outside of Rockhampton, near the Tropic of Capricorn, Queensland, Australia. I think that I have some here already wrapped, so if you are still interested, and if you can find out how much it would cost to send 50 x 535grain boolits from Queensland Australia to W/Oregon, USA, no worries. But I have a feeling that it might be cheaper to buy the mold from BACO.

Southern Son,check with your firearms registry and customs.
In NSW we cannot send or receive projectiles or brass.
Hate for you to lose them thru customs confiscation.

Southern Son, you are probably correct on the shipping.
I you only lived across the street.
Thank you very much for the offer though.

I cast the Lee 515-500-F and then run it through a Lee .458" sizing die. As long as I use a little lube it doesn't take any great 'muscle' and they come out 'perfectly' for me. I'll see if I can find some to post pictures of. I also use those as cores for .510" jacketed bullets I make. and I also do this with other calibers - .430" 424", etc.

Wow,good looking bullet there.
I thought you have to size your bullets for PP for the 45/70 to .450-.451 range,I do and get good results, but that is in my gun,a Ruger no3 45/70,hence my username :)
Good bullet though.

Sav300 is right,we have to go through all the paperwork to send bullets to the US,as well as getting them from the US,I should know,I got 1500 projectiles & 500 Unprimed brass back in early 2007.
So please check with your authorities,so you don't get their wrath thrust upon you ;)

no34570 - I don't shoot much PP bullets, and I am a pretty big fan of Ackley, that demonstrated pretty clearly about "over-sized" bullets. However...

My point was really that you only need a Lee sizing die, not an expensive "swaging die", to make PP bullets. The final diameter is yours to choose. Even Lee custom sizing dies only cost $45 the last time I checked.

Not Australian Law, just one State's, being NSW.

Of course one can import brass and projectiles into Australia.

For my fellow Aussies, simply fill a Customs Form B709, it allows you to import with little hassle.

Paul:
That is a good lookin boolit you made there.
You have a good point with the Lee sizer die. I will have to ponder that for a while.
If I can size my 457125 down to .442, I can then patch it back up to .450 and try it.
Thanks for the tip.
Jack
PS
I have a cousin in Wasilla.

Jack,
Is this for blackpowder loads, or smokeless? I am guessing BP because you mentioned swaging the 457125 down to .442.

Littlejack - Considering the help I have received here at Cast Boolits over the years, it's a privilege to be of some help for a change.

Yes sir, it is for BP loads. I got my Uberti Highwall shooting very well with the 457125 boolit.
I figured I would play around with PP for a while so I don't get bored.
