Just got this 3 screw ruger 41 magnum and I'm trying to get the Lee 195 SWC to shoot while I'm waiting for my RCBS 210 SWC to return from RCBS.
My question would be has anyone been able to get the Lee SWC to shoot?
I've tried Unique, W231, 2400 and Tite group, only the 2400 showed any promise.
I've slugged the barrel and cylinders and I've got all that under control, just can't get the Lee to shoot.
Thank for any help,
Bill

It works fine in both of my S&W revolvers....I cannot help you much with the load as I use 13to 14g AL8 which is, uhh boy, 35 years old? How much 2400 did you try? AL8 is just a tish faster than 2400. Using rem std primers.

I'm not sure what you "need" for accuracy,
I am using some 35 yr old Red Dot (7.0 gr.) with good success.
I use a 50-50 alloy with the Lee 195 swc
sized to .411 and Glenhills Green lube
OAL is 1.550"
shot through a Ruger BH

Good Luck,
Jon

PS, 50-50 is WW-soft lead

I always shot those 195's un sized and had pretty good results. I could hit milk jugs at 50 yd. But my gun likes the 210 TL boolit just a little better Also unsized. I can hit clay pigeons at 50 yd. I shot a book that was hung in front of the bank and there was kind of a confetti storm of little round paper disks behind the book. Quite entertaining!

Bill: How well do the Lee 195 SWC fit your throats? Fit is more important than powder.

I've been using 15.5 grains of 2400 for lightweight bullets, myself.

I love the mental picture I get of a confetti storm of little round paper dots.

My wife says I am easily entertained.

It's the bank where all the yahoos deposit their extra lead for me to withdraw.

Thanks for the replys:
I tried 17 grains of 2400 with a 4 shot group of 2 inches at 25 yds. The 5th shot opened it up another inch and a half: probably me.
I also shot 15 grs. of 2400 and the group was bad.
To answer the other question I'm sizing to .410 and fit is good.
Tried Trail Boss and sr 4756 today and no luck.
I know the gun will shoot because it shot the 200 gr. cast from Midway (Hunter supply FN) very good with 8grs. of Unique.
May go back and try 16 grs. of 2400, and pray RCBS will ship my 210 SWC mold back soon.
Thanks;
Bill

what Lube are you using ?

My lube is BAC, use it in 4 different guns with great results.
Also my mix is 2 to 1 Linotype and pure lead.
I know, I know but it works!!!

Well BAC will certainly not be the problem,
it one of my favorites.

Well, Good Luck, maybe your RCBS will show up soon

If you have some available to test try Hodgdon Universal powder. It works really well in my .41 mag. I also use Trail Boss for light loads, and Alliant 2400 for full bore, rompin' stompin' loads.

I am not real experienced with 2400. All of the loads that I have for 2400 that work are on the hot side.....that's kinda why I went the AL8 direction as I could shoot a lot and not feel like I was pounding nails without a hammer.
