I am looking for a 25 Hornet reamer. No one I checked has one. Any suggestions where I might find one? Thanks, Dan

Thinking about making some 25 Stevens into 25 hornets.

Might be trickier than you expect. Twist is slow in those old rimfire barls, so only light boolits, and the nominal boolit diameter of the Stevens rimfire was .251". A mold for a .25 ACP boolit should work.

But your .25 Hornet reamer should cut the neck smaller than it would for modern slugs, or you'll have a very sloppy chamber. Pilot will have to be smaller, too. Just picking a .25 Hornet reamer "off the rack" may not work for you, is what I'm saying. Buy some gage pins and measure your actual bore, before you go investing in a reamer. Not groove diameter - bore diameter.

What action? Model 44? A Favorite will be much too weak for any but the very lightest loads in that Hornet case.

Gage pin source: http://www.gageshop.com/ Typically $2.50 each.

Danth;
Have you considered making .25 stevens CF cases out of 22 hornets ?
They can be swaged down ,and neck expanded
I use a homade die in 2 steps.
I expansion reamed a piece of 1 in.dia drill rod to .002 under the chamber dia.
One end has an app.040 R.
Put a lubed case into the end with the large rad.and i use a LARGE bench vise, with a smooth jaw and press the case into the die ;tap it out with a punch;turn the die around ,and press the case into the other end and press it in all the way. some cases with small grooves around the rim will need to have the groove deepened.
Some cases , the die will shear off a small ring of brass, wich i cut off with a exacto knife
When i punch the cases out the 2nd time,I use a punch tapered to expand the neck to ,25,and long enough to knock the cases out.The cases look a little wrinkled, but the first fire forming, will straighten them out.
The rims may need trimmed, depending on your rifle I have one favorite ,that they will fit in ,and a 1915 requires trimming.
Check your bore, some one else said theirs was .251. Mine are both .257
I cast up rcbs .25acp bullets ,and size/swage them into a homade die to put a heel on the bullet like a .22 .
most of the lube groove gets swaged out ,so i dip them in Ecko jacket lube for extra lube
convert your breachblock to CF.I bought an extra on ebay, and kept the original.
Just drop a transfer punch down the bore,to mark the center.
A 2nd option is to use .25 acp cases with a heeled bullet.
The barrel will have to be set back,app.010/015 ,but the .25 has enough of a rim ,to headspace on.
They are not as accurate as the longs due to bullet jump ?
I use 1.5 gr of a fast burning pistol powder, and they are accurate enough to squirrel hunt with.

might i suggest converting to 25acp instead? same bore size as the stevens and less pressure.

now, if only i could find a stevens in 25rimfire..............

Call Pacific Tool and Guage and ask to speak with Dave Kiff. Tell him what you want to do and he'll be able to give you the answers you need.

Isn't there a reamer rental place somewhere? I don't think it was either of the two links posted though.
