My uncle just recently managed to buy a mint condition Dan Wesson 44VH (with 4 barrels). I would like to purchase a 44 cal mold so that I can cast him some boolits (I owe him big time because he has taught me most of what I know about shooting, hunting, and life in general). What are your favorite 44 molds?

To throw a wrench into the works, he has expressed interest in a lighter than normal bullet so that he can get as much velocity as possible. Does anyone have experience with lighter boolits in 44 mags?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Nearly an impossible question to answer. What do you plan on shooting with this Dan Wesson? Paper? Tin cans? Critters? Dangerous critters that could eat you? At what distance will these things be shot?

I've got about 10 or 12 moulds in 44 , they are all my favorites but all for different things. Some are heavy HP's, some are heavy WFN, some are light & pointy etc.

Thanks for asking that, I should have been more clear. Deer will be the intended target, at ranges out to 100 yards out of an 8" barrel.

Nice score. Great handguns.

To 100 yards on deer with the 44 I would suggest that a light bullet at higher velocities isn't what your uncle needs. I would go with Lyman 429421, Lyman 429244 or RCBS 245 SWC GC on the light side, all of these at the least have a decent meplat. There are numerous 44 cal heavy weight bullets that would be a better choice.

A light bullet at higher velocity will in all probablity shoot straight through with little tissue damage. Your deer will then run off putting you in the chase. You may or may not find it.
