I loaded a few 38 Specials for my Marlin 1894 , 38 Spec. CBC lever rifle.
The load is 9.5 grs. of 2400 with an RCBS 200 gr. g/c HP.( Hp work done
on my mold by Erik )

When I first loaded them, they looked way too long. So I
put 4 in the mag. tube and cycled them through the action.

They ran through the rifle like water running through screen wire.

When you look at the ballistics of this round and the bullet weight, it
kinda turns this one into a modern day 38 / 40.

I have the same rifle and a 200gr NOE mold. Sounds interesting.

Is you NOE mold casting solids or HP's or both ?

I originally bought this mold for 35 Whelen and 358 Win.use but I thought,
Ummm, why not load a few and try them in my little Marlin 1894 ? ?
I got my load data from the Lyman 45 manual .

I'll shoot a few of these in a couple of days, I'll try and think to post the results.

Mine is the semi-Keith style SWC mold. Solids. I'll try a couple of dummies to see if it will cycle.

Kelbro that bullet should work in your Marlin in .357 brass seated to the crimp grove.

Thanks Dwight. I got to thinking about it and I sort of remember making a dummy up for it already. Need to go out and take a look around my bench :). I know that I shot some in the 586 and maybe the Dan Wesson. Too doggone many projects last year!

That looks very promising. My last range trip I ran some Lyman #358430 in .38 spl cases with a normal load of 231 through my 16" Rossi with pretty good results. Next trip I am going to try some loaded both lighter and heavier.

A friend of mine cautioned me that I may have stability problems with my load in my Marlin 1894 , 38 Spec., CBC rifle ? ?

Ben,

I don't know about stability issues, what is the twist on your barrel? I would shoot them and see. It looks to me like they should feed very well, let the target tell you if the gun like them or not.

Robert :

I think you're right Robert, a lot of rifles don't know much about theories, physics, etc.
I think I'll let the rifle decide. My rifle's twist rate is 1 - 16 .

It may well work. I am always amazed at the number of things discovered by people who didn't know something wouldn't work or was impossible.

I am all for letting the rifle and target decide.

Like my old Granddaddy always told me...........
" Son, that paper target don't lie ".

I like that. Talk about good old fashioned "plain, simple truth".

Those look pretty neat. Interested to know how they work out for you.
