I picked up a SC 358429 mold marked "IDEAL" ,it`s block #is 737, the lube groove is round , all the bands measure .3605 even the front band !!![smilie=w:

It is unvented & the pins while rounded look squared shouldered .

I`m curious as of the manufacture date of this mold ????

It has been cared for very well & I will continue such .

Thanks for any input you may have in advanced !![smilie=s:

I can post a pic if needed later .

Fifties or earlier if it's labeled "Ideal", I believe.

The round lube groove would have drawn Elmer's ire, so it's probably not the earliest run of moulds. The lack of venting is curious, though.

The lack of vent lines means it was made before 1949. The change from Ideal to Lyman stamping on the mould blocks happened in the late 50s (1958?).

Thanks fellers ,I knew "IDEAL" put it earlier than the late 50s but the absence of vent lines had me curious !

Wonder why IDEAL changed the lube groove to round ??? easier to cut cherries & molds ????
Wonder if Mr. Barlowe had input on the design ????

& it`s true it`s as long as a 429421 !!!
