Is anyone using 2400 in a 45-70 trapdoor?

Inquiring minds want to know and I understand that any loads listed are simply the loads you use and that you are not recommending them as safe.

Thanks,

Mark

24 grains of 2400 powder will give you just about the same velocity as 70 grains of black powder and is safe in a trap door.

Doc,

I want to thank you for the load info. Do you have any idea if this load does well? Position sensitive?

Again, thanks, I really appreciate the info.

Best regards,

Mark

Last week I tried 25g of 2400 with a 300 g cast with gas check. I used a poly wad over the powder. Don't know if it needed it or not but I already had them cut out. I got two, three shot groups under 1.75 inch. Very mild recoil and fun to shoot. I'm going to try some heavier bullets next week.

Mark Daiute, no it was not that bad. I have shot 10 grains of Unique that was more position sensitive.

I have also used IMR 3031, IMR4895, and I now just pretty much use AA5744.

Don't have an original trapdoor but shoot trapdoor loads through my 22" handi rifle 405gr HB. Loads I worked up with 2400 worked well. From my notes 20.0 grains velocity was 1150 fps, 23.0 grs showed 1360 fps. Would of worked some more with it but got hold of several pounds of 5744 and have been using it with very good results.
