I bought out a old reloader's estate tonight

In one of the boxs was a home made ?? 12 gau foster type slug swaging set up and 1 slug

When I find the camera cable I will post some pic's

My question is , how big of a press or Hydraulic jack would I need to form the 1 oz slugs ?

For a reloading type press ~ BIG

I have a custom swaging die for making 410-bore slugs that goes in a regular 7/8x14 iron frame press:

The force required to swag slugs (using nearly pure soft lead) using that die is about the same as full length sizing of heavy magnum rifle brass such as 375-H&H. I wouldn't trust anything but a heavy iron frame press for use with that die. In fact I destroyed one of the aluminum turret head inserts for the Lee 4-Hole Classic Cast Iron Turret Press with that die, the press could handle it but the aluminum turret insert couldn't.

Assuming a 0.73" diameter it should take slightly over three times the force to swag slugs with your 12ga. die then it takes for my 410-bore die based upon the cross sectional area. I think you are looking at either some kind of hydraulic set-up whether that is a simple hydro jack in a frame or a more elegant and costly set-up. The biggest hand press I have seen took 1-1/2" threaded dies and had a handle on it that was about three feet long, that might have been big enough put I still think it would take some heft on the handle to get the job done.
