Being brand new to casting, I have a question regarding zinc. If I inadvertently drop a few zinc wheel weights into the pot w/ lead, will they float to the top, or will they just melt & ruin my batch?

It depends on how hot your pot is, if you keep it below 750, they should float to the top, as zinc is lighter.

I would keep the pot below 700'.

If you keep the temp below 787 degrees F they will float like ducks on a pond.

They'll float, but they may be tough to spot in with the clips from the clipon weights.

As long as you don't let the temp get hot enough to melt zinc, it'll be no problem and you can just skim them out.
