We had a customer tell us his 22/250 bullets were bouncing off caribou ( true story) so we are bumping him up a bit in caliber ( not realy).
I just started shooting the 475 Ackley and would like to compare notes with anyone else that is shooting one.
So far I have worked up two loads that seem very accurate and should have enough velocity/energy to be useful for hunting.
#1 430gn MM wfn-gc
75gn Re#7
CCI #200
2450 fps
#2 605gn MM RNGC
85gn WC-846
CCI #250
2050 fps.
These are safe loads in my gun but you know the deal!!!
Ackley shows 90gn Dupont 4320 for 2250 fps with a 600 gn bullet, ( most likely a Barns original). Maybe so but some of Parker's loads are hot enough to launch the space shuttle. I approach them very cautiously!
What ya got?

Oh thanks a lot. I have 475 barrel blank sitting in the bunker that was given to Elmer Keith, who gave it to Joe Merrill, who gave it to an old friend of mine who gave it to me. Whew! I am intrigued about your rifle, what action?

Maybe its time to give it to me. Just kidding.
Its on a 1917 Enfield.

One of my "projects" was to build a .475 LTD. I read about it in G&A years ago when Elmer was helping to develop it.

Maybe one of these days....

I already have a 505 Gibbs and a 416 Taylor. Not real sure I need another big gun. Thank God for the 1917 Enfield, that is what my Gibbs is on. A 600 grain bullet from the Gibbs at 2000 is about all I want anymore. It started out weighing 9 pounds, shot it for several years. It really was brutal at that weight. Added two mercury reducers which got the weight up to 11 pounds and is now much better to shoot. Quite a killer too.

Got pictures of the cases? Is there even any shoulder left to head space on?

Its simply the full length H&H case opened up and about straight.
No need for a shoulder to headspace on. I just load it with 50 cal boolits and headspace off those. NOT ! Just kidding about the 50 cal boolits. Its belted so we can count on the belt for the headspacing.
Hay Frank how much are you paying for those 505 Gibbs cases, bout $5.00 ea.? You dont find those lying about at the gravel pit.
WOW! I thought someone would be shooting a 475 Ackley. Guess I have to go it alone.
BTW if someone decides to try one we now have a lovely boolit design especially for it.
It and several new designs still will not show up at our site as we still have not figured out how to make changes there. If you want something but dont see it at our site it dont mean we dont have it.

Where'd you find your 475 reamer at?
