Is plain wheel weights good / hard enuff for shooting 223 loads? I'm thinking that my velocity will be around the 2000 fps mark.

I am driving an ACWW 225462 HP, 54gr at 2300fps from my 1 - 12 twist Rem 700 .223 over 13gr H4227 with great accuracy.

Assuming that .223 is a 1-9 twist, you'll be somewhat challenged (IMHO) to hit 2000 fps with good accuracy. My preference would be to WD/HT that ww alloy for more hardness, or you could mix it with soft and WD/HT for good hardness and even more toughness.

Heavier boolits (65-75 grain) might be more challenging to get more velocity (with accuracy) that lighter ones (50-60 grain).

I had good luck with my cast boolits from wheel weights, and 1-15 alloy in both my .223's, and my Ruger .22 Hornet at over 2000 fps.

Yeah its a Savage 12bvss with 1/9 twist. I was thinking of adding a little Linotype to my ACWW. The Mold is a 22 Bator that came in today. Anyway its sounds like straight WW will suffice.

Thought I would cast a few here shortly, I'm awaiting for a GC shipment to arrive so it'll still be another week before they arrive.

My Stevens 200 runs around 2.5"-3" @ 100 yards with the bator and listed 7 gr Unique. The 225646 tightens things up an inch or so.

I shoot a like Sav, and have good luck overall. That said, unless you are a lot better than the average bear, or reloader of most of the 22's, don't look for the magic 5 shot MOA. Suggest you read Beagles article on the 223 "Why Grown Men Cry". My results are similar to his overall. Have had some luck with the bator blt, but exact weights are an absolute must, and the harder the better in my experiance.
