I have a 4 inch GP and the 7.5 inch SRH. I really like them both. My SRH prefers .432 bullets however, .429 Lymans lead it pretty good. I have gotten good at cleaning lead from a barrel however........

Been shooting them both a little nothing formal. But they both show promise. Lee molds 158 SWC and 158 SWCGC with 2400 and Unique in the GP100. And the Lee 240 SWCGC 2400 in the Super Redhawk. Been a long time since I shot a 44, had to tuffin up the palm a little. But it's fun. I've shot a ton of deer but never one with a handgun. I think this is the year.

I've never shot a handgun with a scope. What ranges would you handgun hunters use a SRH with iron sights vs. a scope to take a deer? What would be a reasonable range with a scoped .44?
Thanks

I used to shoot a 44 Redhawk a lot about 20 years ago. I had the 7.5 barrel with integral scope rings and a nice little scope. I could always hit a paper plate at 100 yds and I think the 44 is capable of killing deer at that range.

Why go to all that trouble? Get lathesmith or Buckshot to make you a .432" size die-makes life easier. I have a .430, .431 and a .432" die...got the bases covered.

I have a 432 sizer, I needed a 432 mould. Got that via a group buy 3 years ago or so. It was then that I found true happiness.

I made a .434 out of my Lee 240 SWCGC and size to .432.

Howdy- I bought my Super Redhawk from another member here; still consider it the best ugly handgun I could buy in that caliber ( .44 mag) for heavy loads not requiring the use of a Contender or Encore, thought size makes it not so handy as my sort of large-ish 629 5"( full underlug - traded away a 4" that was NOT fun to shoot with factory loads on that one). The Redhawk came to me in excellent shape, and will loathe selling it off when I am no longer so able as I am now ( hopefully not for years to come). Great gun.:drinks:

I shot the SRH at 100 yards this afternoon. Had two 5 shot groups the were about 6 inches if you don't count the one flier. I was happy with that, I have never shot a handgun that far before. With practice it should get better. I was using 18 gr. 2400 and a Lee 240 SWCGC opened up to to .434 and sized to .432.

I wish I could figure out how to post pictures. Last Sunday morning I got lucky and shot a fly with the GP 100 at 7 yards. Head shot of course. Made a neat little smear on the target.
