I load for and really like my Marlin 94 in 45 colt and my Marlin 95 in 45-70. I also load some pistol in 45 colt as well, mid range and magnum loads.

So what brand of primers do you guys prefer, or do you always try and use what the manuals say.

I use Winchester for 45 Colt, never had a problem thus far. They work as required.

IMHO primer matters very little in the 45 Colt. Its just not finicky like other calibers.

Next time I buy primers I may give CCI a try. They are a couple bucks cheaper.

I use mostly Win or Rem primers. Mostly because they are what I can get cheapest. No real reason beyond that.

I prefer Federal 215 for BP in 45-70 but won't put up with their packaging. My space is limited and I can store pretty close to 4000 cci's in the space 1000 federals take up.

i can't say on the 45-70, cause i don't have one. but in 45 colt wlp seem to work very well for me. but i don't think it really matters much in a large case like that.

LP in the 45 lc and LR in the 45/70. Whatever is cheap works for me too. Been using Wolf for a couple of years now.

Cheapest works for me. I have used about every type of primer over the years and have found very little if any real difference in accuracy for most uses especially in handgun calibers. About the only time I get particular is when loading ammo for matches for long range shooting. Then I generally use either Winchester or Federal Primers. Recently I have used a lot of Wolf primers as they are cheap and go bang quite nicely.

except for a a very few j-ball loads where I use Federal 215's, most of my loading is done with Winchester WLPs for large pistol and their WLRs for standard large rifle. Why? Cheap--at the gunshow near my home a 5000 primer sleeve is 99.99. The Wolf can be had for a bit less, but is not readily available. I formerly used CCI, but they were hard to find in the sleeve, and 32.99 a thousand otherwise.

I use Remington primers for all rifle loads. I use Winchester primers for all handgun loads.
