After searching this forum and the web extensively, I could not find any information on a Lyman 358277 158gr SWC Mold, I looked through all the castpics old catalogs also.

If anybody has any insight on this mold I would appreciate it.

Thank You

Greg

Are you sure bout that number?

Lyman 358477, 150 grain SWC has been a staple 38 Special/357 Mag boolit
for a long time. One of the best IMHO.

Jerry, you are correct, if I was a few years older I could blame it on old age.

The funny thing is there was one other reference on the Internet for the 358277 although it was just a load reference. If I had not found that I would have got the mold out and looked again.

Thanks for the reminder of always measure twice and cut once.

All the multiple 358477 molds that I have are 150 gr, but Glen says that they became 158
at some point, and I NEVER doubt Glen.

Top notch boolit in my experience, but this is 150 gr version. Can't see that the extra wt would
be likely to ruin it, tho.

Are you sure it is 158 and not 150gr? (of course all wts are nominal, no mold throws the exact
wt as the 'norm')

My year old Lyman 358477 does in fact drop at 158 grs. Good accuracy under a less than max load of 2400 powder in 357 S&W 4" 586.

I have not cast with it yet.

It was a flea market find in a 4 banger, was excited to see what I had.

I will report back when I get a chance to try it out.

I predict a LOT of satisfaction with #358477. 30 years of service from mine, still going strong.

Both of my four cavity #358477 drop 150 grain boolits with my alloy. Of course they didn't start that way, but with the help of a surface grinder, they dropped right in line!

I have an old Ltman 358477 4-cav dated 1957, that is a different bullet than the current one. The new ones have a more rounded nose with a sharp flat meplat. Mine is straighter with much more rounded edges. #2 alloy drops right at .358 and 150gr.

My 358477 drops right at 153 grains sized and lubed. It's a darn fine bullet for both the Blackhawks and my Marlin M1894./beagle

I am not sure when the change was made but the old 358477 drops at 150-152 grains. It has a large round grease grove and has a wasp waist. The new 358477 drops at 155-158 grains, has straight sides, and has a smaller grease grove. I shot them side by side and could not see any difference in accuracy. If you have adjustable sights either bullet will be good. If you have fixed sights the new 358477 at about 158 grains would be the better choice as it would hit closer to the point of aim.

The old style 358477 is my favorite "all-around" bullet for the .38's and .357's I own.
