I examined a Sav. AXIS in 308 Win. about a week ago. They wanted $269 + tax for the rifle.

If it is anything like the other Savage rifles that I've seen shoot, it will be a real winner. I've always said that the best thing about a Savage is it's barrel.

if you would have used the 700 rem in the question id sure pick the remington but i would have a 770 if it was given to me. the savage axis is but ugly but im sure its a well built accurate gun.

I also vote for the Savage. Button rifiling and the way the bbl is headspaced make a Savage very accurate. I own a 223 Savage that is very accurate. greg

I'm with LLoyd on this one. The Remington 700 is first rate, the 770 I wouldn't own. The Savage is a solid rifle. Of the two listed the Savage would be my pick.

I've bought a couple of plain Jane 700 Sps rifles recently one a .223, and the other a .308. Both shoot well. I adjusted the triggers a bit, and smoothed up the feed rails a bit on the .308, and they both function very well. Neither on will be going anywhere soon. Now I'm thinking about a heavy barreled rifle, and I think it is going to be an Sps Varmint, or 20" tactical....... can't make up my mind. It is interesting that my Sps .308 weighs the same as my plastic stocked Ruger 30-06 ultra light.
