i have a mitutoyo model mlp-7705w, code# 164-455 that came with my mill. it light's up and the x feed works perfect, but theres a problem with the y feed #'s. i looked on the rear panel at the right hand bottom corner below the input cable for the y feed the last two switchs appear broken. before i try to repair this i'd like some guidance. does anyone know where i can get a manual for this unit, or a repair facitily nearest me in Louisiana. is this something i should try to fix myself or have it repaired? thanks

Hi,
I would first see what the manufacturer would do! If they won't do anything you might try these boys:http://www.industrial-electronics-repair.com/index.php

Rats- that's to bad Danny. Wonder if the seller will cover that?

I've got a brand new Anilam Wizard DRO package I bought for my mill and never installed it because the mill has Travadials.

Before you do anything else, I would plug in the X scale in the Y port & the Y scale in the X port. That way you can tell for sure if the problem is in the scale or the reader head.

Most types of scales can be purchases as individual items in various lengths.

If the problem turns out to be broken switches in the reader head, the repair might not be that though.

Edit,
I just looked in my piles of spare parts. I only have stuff for the American made version of the Mitsu DRO. I believe that the one you have is the made in Japan version with the round 6-pin connector on the glass scales.

thanks guys, i found the problem. the small switchs are made to slide back and forth, well some genius pushed the buttons in instead of sliding them thus pushing the switch out of the body. i opened it up and was able to put switchs back together and everything works well. i still want to get the manual for this model if i can find one. would be nice to know how it works. i'll check out that webb site, thanks

i got a pdf copy of the manual from someone on the practical machinist forum. it sure is helpful to have a manual, when all else fails, read the instructions!
