View Full Version : Catshooter's .45 310 gr Keith group buy starts HERE!
Catshooter

Here it is, the big one. This is a close copy of the NEI .45-310, with our additions of the Keith criteria. Should weigh in the neiborhood of 310 grains, depending. Should drop at about .455, depending. 45 2.1 will post a picture shortly for y'all do drool on.
Cost is $60 for a six gang Lee custom mould. This includes a mould for our on board designer, without whom this would not have been the sucessful run of moulds that it has been. I ship USPS Priority, but with no insurence. Out of country? PM me for how to pay.
Now I am running more than one buy, so it's very important you tell me what buy you want in on and and your screen name.
PM me for my address. I take checks or money orders. I'll hold the buy open for a month, (unless we need more time) then issue last call, then close it. After I mail the moulds, I'll wait a month and then offer up any extras for sale, if any. I can't control the USPS, so if it doesn't arrive there's not alot I can do. Their insurence system just isn't worth messing with, but if someone wants it, let me know and I'll let you know how much.
Should be fun, and a hell of a mould.

How is your design different from the NEI 451-310? It looks like you might have a little deeper grease groove, but my eyes might be deceiving me. Also, what are the changes supposed to alter or improve? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Yes, a bit deeper lube groove, your eyes are not deceiving you. Good call. I sent a sample from my NEI to 45 2.1. It is the first mould cut for that design by Walt. Is it just lovely, or what. Shoots wonderfully and at 900 fps it's soft yet hits, well, 'bout like you'd think.

This looks great Catshooter! Great job 45 2.1! Between the other Keith gbs that we've had in the past, my own 285 grainer, Cat's other 210 grainer and this one, I'll have a full collection of .45 boolits!
210 grn, 452423 (250 grn), 452424 (265 grn), My own gb (285 grn) and this new one (310 grn).
I think that I may actually have all the bases covered for my .45 ACP, .45 Auto Rim and .45 Colts.
My life is finally going to be complete!:drinks:
I'm in. Do you want a PM with all our shipping info?

45 2.1: How is your design different from the NEI 451-310? The nose is slightly different, grease groove bevels are different as well as GG depth. It looks like you might have a little deeper grease groove, but my eyes might be deceiving me. They're not. Also, what are the changes supposed to alter or improve? Like the other Keith GBs, the changes have provided easier casting and better groups. That is the objective for most of these GBs. Thanks in advance for your reply! Ray

I don't have one yet... But, what kind of velocity could I expect with this out of a 16" Lever in .45LC??
Or, one of those 4" S&Ws??
This could be a good field load out in the foothills & mountains...

FWIW - Carefull with the overall Length. A friend of mine has a Henry 'Big Boy (Brass reeiver) he can't use the RCBS 45 270 SAA as the OAL is too long. It sticks between the bolt and the feed ramp - wayyy tooo Long.
He does get good accuracy out of the RCBS 45 230 CM with Unique, 231 and Trailboss.

Could you line up the GB's side by side of

And now the 310 gr.er. Just be nice to see the changes side by side.
If you cannot thats ok.
Yup I do have the last two Keith GB's.

I'm a little confused with all these.
What has actually been a group buy passed, and what's newly proposed?
I've got 2 of Cat's group .45 cal molds, one- I thought was the Keith 454424 and it casts out to about 252grns ACWW. The other's a .460 diameter. Part of the problem is we now have so many group buys. I think there needs to be a definite name or mold number. I don't even no what to lable the box..
Catshooter
01-03-2007, 12:41 AM
Pat,
Being confused is only natural :)
The first you mention is our idea of the Keith 454424. The second is the .460 - 360 that is really designed as a light .45-70 boolit. It would probably work in a .45 Colt, it's only real question is overall length when loaded. There's yer name/number for yer boxes. :)
These other GBs are just different weight .45s. From the responses, you'd think the .45 is the national caliber of the US!
I've been watching both of my query threads to deceide which .45 to run, the 210 or the 283. But both responses are about the same! What's a mother to do?

Decisions, decisions. If this mold drops boolits at a difference of plus or minus one-tenth grain from the NEI mold I already have, it could be justified by the rules I laid down for myself which you can see are very stringent.

Had a question about this mould. How is the meplat on this? I am currently using the Lee C452-300-RF and like the size of the nose. Some of the .452/.454's seem to have a small "nose" on them, that's why I normally shoot the Lee above and a Lyman 454424. Just wondering how this one compares?
Thanks.
