just a word to say that the powder and primers that I ordered from Powder Valley last weekend are here today. The $25 hazmat fee covered both primers and powder. I saved alot! from what the local rip-offs around here are charging and got my stuff in record time too!

Yeah, PV is my go to place when I need supplies.. a local vendor sometimes does a massive group buy to save on shipping/hazmat..

So what was the shipping itself and for how much weight? I have been thinking of placing an order and have been trying to figure shipping.

The shipping on 26 pounds was only $11.95. The hazmat was $25.

Locally, shotgun primers cost $50 per 1000 in the last 3 places I went to (Markley's, the camouflage place on Camden Ave (forgot their name) and The Gun Exchange). Most powders are up around $28-$30 + per pound.

I put up a deposit on some powder at one place for a big groupbuy but it's been more than one month now and no order. Going to go back and get my $ back.

PV has been my favorite for a while. If they do not have what I want I try Natchez.

Price check Wideners too. They are much cheaper on wolf primers (around $16).

Graf & Sons can be a good source too. $4.95 standard shipping and I ordered a couple of 5k boxes of primers plus powders when they had a promotion and waived the HazMat charge not long ago.

I think with my last order to them, the shipping was based on the dollar amount of the order. And I think the cutoff amount was $300...

I maybe be wrong, but I know I carefully calculated my order to stay under $300...

They are the best to deal with and I am getting another order ready to go...

Good-luck...BCB

I just learned about Powder Valley a few months ago. Have placed two orders, stocking up on primers and powders. Great prices and availability on everything I've needed. Delivery was pretty quick too.

I live within driving range and I want to tell you that they are nice people in person too. Normally I call them with an order and let them know when I'll be there. This is a wonderful company.

Ken, you've had better luck than me.

I'm about 50 miles from powder valley. I drove down once and it was fine. The next time I wanted to drive down, I couldn't make it happen. Their site said Saturday pickup, but they said in email they didn't do it any more. I tried another day, but I think it was the day before a holiday or something. I haven't tried again since. Between gas, sales tax, and hassle, I decided to order from wideners.

But since they're within 1 hour of our Gander Mountain, Gander will price match!

Sorry your experience has not been as good as mine. Where in Kansas do you live?

I looked at ordering from Natchez when they ran a special on primers with haz mat fees off if you ordered a certain amount. I compared prices with Wideners and Powder valley, and saw that the natchez prices far above the prices at the other two stores, just to cover the haz fee. nothing for free.

Check Hi-Tech in St. Louis They give no hazmat on primers when ordering a large amount. I don't remember how much but it is on their web site.

Powder Valley is on Facebook. They posted this earlier today about shipping rates.

Powder Valley
Order subtotal <$150.00 freight = $9.95, <$300 freight = $13.95, <$600 freight = $15.95, >$600 freight = $19.95. All freight is on a per box shipped basis. Typically we can ship 50 lbs of bullets or brass for about $14.00. Freight rates for wads will vary by your location. Freight for shot is $14.00 for two bags. I hope this helps. If there is anything I have missed please ask and I will post more information here.
