What is the going price to sell scrap wheel weights to (NOT FROM) a scrap dealer. I have offered to buy 3 buckets with a price based on "current prices.

Tried doing some searches and found LITTLE information, apparently if it isn't posted, then one can't go and expect that price

Dealers prices very allot depending on the area and willingness to deal with you. I went to a dealer a few years back when clean lead was going for about $.20 a # and he wanted $1 a # for dirty scrap lead. I walked and he tried to go down but I could see he wasn't going to go to a fare price.

Last week, here in northern Ohio, the going price for wheel weights was .20 per lb. Clean lead was .45 per lb. These are the prices that the scrap dealer was giving.

One scrap yard I used to go to bought for 25% of what they sold them for. 6cents buy, 25 cent sell. I bought a 55 gallon drum full for 23 cents/lb. I showed up 2 weeks later and he wanted .35/lb. I walked.

The guy I use now doubles his money. 10-12cents to buy. 20-25cents to sell. I keep this guy cleaned out.

a few months ago, I bought 3 buckets of WWs from a auto junk yard.
He called a large metals recycler in Minneapolis and got a "buy" price of 44¢ per lb,
that's what I paid him.

Last year I asked a large re cycler for the price of WW. .09 per # was his answer. Great I will take 400 # said I excitedly. OH if you want to buy I gave you the price we pay for it. If you want to buy some the price is.65 per #.

By the way his scales weigh to the .1 of a pound.

I went to another yard and got a price of .60 per #. and filled 2 buckets as full as I could lift ( at 70+years) and took the load to the scales. 115# is the total call it $60.00 the owner said.

I look in the back of the phone book for scrap dealers and make phone calls to them and ask what they are paying.

The scrap shop here two weeks ago, 12 cents a lb. coming in the door and 71 cents a lb. going out the door. I was told that is what we are paid for it, take it or leave it. Gtek

Thanx All,

As usual there is a real spread in prices (likely somewhat based on the "SPOT" price and the rest on the grabby factor)between dealers, locations and whether the scrap dealer is quoting buying or selling price.

Will see what they describe as 5 gallon buckets and do a little weighing.

Needed some wheel weights and 4-5 buckets will keep me a couple of years or longer.

I bought 2 completely full 5 gallon buckets at an auction sunday for 33 bucks. I don't know how heavy they were, but it was almost more than I can lift to put in the pickup any more. lol

They sold 8 buckets (all but 1 full to the brim) for 150 bucks.

The scrap dealer in MD pays .10 and the last time I was there they had 55 gal drums full.
Then I found they quit selling anything to the public. :takinWiz:
