I got the note from the post office that my dies are waiting for me at the post office. So i have a few ideas.

I am going to use 5/16" copper tubing for jackets and 5.7z28mm brass as well.

I hope to get a machine shop around here to help me with some boat tail punches. I will be making jackets like I did with the handgun dies.

I'll keep you posted.

What did they run? How long was the wait? What weight bullets wall they make and what nose design?

I paid about $160 for them including the hollow point and soft point punches. I haven't experimented with them yet since I have yet to pick them up at the post office. I was told it will make up to a 175gr bullet but I think it will go as high as 200.

Once I can get a rebated boat tail out of it and keep the accuracy to 1 MOA or better then we have a cheap little gem. There is quite a wait on them...several months.

I am anxiously awaiting your results.

Has CH4d recently changed their 30 cal dies to make heavier bullet ?

BT had me test a CH4d 30 cal die set purchased from CH4d last year and
BT made the improved internal parts. I was hoping for a 167 gr bullet.
I found issues with bullet base size if I went to 150ish.
I was successful when I settled with a final weight of 123gr.
See my report on Post #59 of this thread

BTW I only used 5.7 brass...never tried copper tube as a jacket,
Jon

You made me order a nose forming die for the 30 cal ! I already have the .308 core seat die from a Herters die set, making a boat tail punch should be interesting.

They seem to be rather limited and I can make bullets for my 32ACP, 30 Carbine and my 7.62x39mm. I have a lot of work to do with this. I think I can make some nice bullets.

So, is this the standard 30 cal die set that that they sell or one for a more pointed rifle bullet? The only one I knew of that CH makes was more blunt like a pistol bullet or 30 Carbine.

It's a bout a 4 caliber ogive...not a round nose but not sleek like a conventional rifle bullet.

Here is a thread as well with some pics. I imagine the bullet profile is still the same.

AmmoSmith, What diameter is seated core/jackets exiting the core seat die at? I had many Ch 308 core seat dies that where a bit big. Hope they fixed this.

Keep us posted.

This is something I have been thinking about for a long time. I wanted to make 30 caliber bullets but the cost of the Corbin was exceedingly high. Here is some bullets I made for my 32 ACP or 30 Carbine using a 50 BMG primer cup as a jacket.

I'll make more for testing.

BT...I am going to get a Lee cast bullet sizing die for 7mm and use that punch to make a recessed core like the ones I've been doing for pistol.

Looks like I should be able to feed my 308 bore 7.62x39 bolt gun with them.

I am going to call Lee and have then send me a 284 sizing punch. I am going to look for more tubing that will fit the die too. There is a lot to be done with these. The 7.62x39 will be just one of several 30 caliber weapons I'll be experimenting with.

BTW...anyone else notice how much lead wire had gone up in the last year?

Never bought any. I have squirted lead wire threw a die in a reloading press though. Of course cast for everything else. Drill some holes in the back side of some Lee AL molds. Good To Go

Nice looking 32s from 50 cal primmer. About 50-60ish grains?

No I haven't. How much has it gone up? If it gets too high I might need to sell some. :)

If you need some, let me know.

PS: BT have you used up all that lead wire I sent you?

Lafaun,

Haven't even started cutting it yet but will soon. May need to pick up that cutter from you. Very nice lead wire btw anyone would be happy to get their hands on some should you decide to make some availble.

Good shooting and Swage On!

What dia. and how much do you want?
Cost is $2.50 per lb plus shipping. Good price I think.
I can make it any dia. you want.

As I recall about .240 works well for 30 cal5.7x28 brass to use for cores. The .250 fit the mouth of the case but would stop short of the bottom of the case because of tappered walls if this helps.

PM me your details and we can get something setup. These dies are omni useful. I am going to use the 30 core seage to make cores for 9mm.

BT..the bullets weigh 70grs. Unfortunately the 32 only likes .312" bullets so I'll make these heavier for the 30 Carbine.

I got my die body yesterday and need to make the ejector parts. From the first sample I made the nose profile seems more suited for the 30 Carbine but should work for my 308x39.
