Has anyone worked up any 45 LC loads using Trail Boss?

Thanks,
Gene

I use the 70% formula for my entire reloading using Trail Boss…

I use it with the 45-270-SAA (283 grains) in my Blackhawk with good results…

Seven grains produces 782 fps. Maximum charge for that boolit is 8.0 grains using the 70% formula…

I like it. Many don’t though…

Good-luck…BCB

I have loaded several pounds in several combos. Standardized on 200 grain Missouri cast bullets (tried 180,s but couldn't tell a difference). Any way in my and my wifes large frame vaquero we shoot 5.7 grains of trailboss with a cci 300 primer in starline cases. Load for a friend shooting a cimmeron something or another which is a lighter gun and load 5.2 grains for him. He has some blowback on the cases but is no issue.

These are CAS loads/plinking/fun. Load heavier for other reasons

Agree w firebrick- "secret" to TB is NOT to try for the minimum charge. As I found, you'll get a whole bunch of unburned powder blowing out of the gun if you do. Crimp well- that helps too.
For handguns, I've lately been loading in 45 Schofield brass ( the larger rim fits fine in my OMVaqueros ) and can use lighter charges with light bullets ( have had great results w 165 gr RNFP moly coated from Bear Creek Bullets, as well as their 185gr, and 200 gr ). Easy , accurate shooting loads. Used published data for the 200s ( minimum listed charge wt gave the noted problems) and stepped it up to find the "sweet spot" by 0.2 gr increments ( found what really worked quickly). Point of impact for the 185s and 200 was identical for my guns.
