I finally got around to taking some pictures of my latest acquisition. This one was built my a member over on Rugerforum.com a while back and was purchased by my late friend. His widow sold his collection and I couldn't stand the thought of her taking the $400 offer on it. I contacted the original seller and found out what Stan had paid for it and gave her a bit more than that for it. The only proper thing to do.

I have a habit of tinkering on every single revolver I own. I think I will break the cycle on this one and leave the screwdrivers in the box.

I have handled a few of the top pistolsmiths works along with a FA or two. This is built as good as any.

Too bad Ruger took my thunder with theirs...(Not complaining ;D)

That is one nice shooter!

How is the balance with the octagon barrel compared to the round barrel?

Mid-frame is the new, smaller frame used on the 50th Anniversary .357s and New Vaqueros.

That is a truly beautiful gun!

That is a beautiful gun, and a nice, and proper thing you did for your friend's widow too. I had a firearms mentor, and good friend when I was a teen, and I have always wished that I could have done that when he died. I love the front sight on that gun! Looks tradional enough, and is great for aging eyes.

That's got to be the prettiest Ruger I have ever seen bar none. Sorry about your loss of your friend, but you did right by his widow, good on you!

never hear ruger call them midframes. Learn something new every day. Id love to build a 5 shot 44mag on one myself someday. =nicholst55;1297040]Mid-frame is the new, smaller frame used on the 50th Anniversary .357s and New Vaqueros.

I guess it would technically be an "original 357 size frame" Blackhawk from Ruger's early days :)

Bowen has a 44 Magnum cataloged!

And, I know of a 5 shot 480 being built on this frame size. That should be a PPP for the non-faint of heart.

That is an awesome revolver. I know you will cherish it and when you look at it you will have fond memories of your friend. One of my closest friends passed away going on 3 years ago. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him and I have a wonderful 1966 Winchester 30-30 commemorative that I got from his son to help the memories stay sharp.
