Anybody seen a Wurfflein? Have one in 32-40, breaks open like a shotgun ;-)

Not a lot of them made, and pre 1900

I saw one in a magazine article and it looked like a fairly nice rifle. Is yours in shootable condition? How about some pictures?

Yes I shoot mine, BUT I never learned how to post pics and at 74 I doubt I will ever learn. My only cameras are 35mm.

The finish is long gone on the rifle, but it is mechanicaly sound.

I had a reproduction- Knight KP1. it shot 1/2moa with factory Hornady ammo. I'd love to see an original!

Wurffleins were made in Philadelphia, IIRC, by William Wurfflein. There was even a Wurfflein Rifle Club in that city at the time where William and his customers competed with Wurfflein rifles. They're probably more common back East; pretty unusual out West.

I saw one eons back at the Arizona Arms Assn. Show in Tucson. It was a .32-40 and was a little loose and shaky. I didn't get it because I was overextended with gun projects at the time. I'm even more overextended now but I wish I'd bought the thing back then anyway.

I think I could make room in my safe for a gun like that! It would be right at home with the 71 Mauser, Rolling blocks, Contenders, and Encore.

New here [smilie=s: and was surprised to find a discussion on Wm. Wurffleins. Not too many of the Wurffleins around. I have a couple I like, one in 32-30 Remington and the other in 22 rimfire. They both lock up tighter than a drum and are a very smooth action. The 22 RF shows blackpowder use in the bore but will still hit the target at 50 yards, just not very small groups. :)

The cases for the 32-30 Remington are made from 357 Maximum brass.

Good to see some others still roaming around.
