Has any one had any luck with a (almost!) full-power load in the 8x56R, using a 250 gr =/- cast bullet?
My powder preference is 4895, and 3031, but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I haven't played with the 8X56R but have played with the 30-06 and full power loads for the it with 206gr boolits.
My experience was that a slower powder is needed. I used 4350, can't remember if it was H or IMR, but should not really matter. I did try 4895, 2520, 4350, 4831, and 870.
The 4831 showed promise also, but I have more 4350.

I was able to get over 2,600 fps with moa accuracy. The bore would have to be brushed after 4 or 5 rounds to remove the debris and restore accuracy. I used LBT Blue Soft as the lube.

Thanks! I'm wanting to try the 250gr pill so that, maybe, the longer body will help with my accuracy. The 8x56R is a beast to get to shoot straight with cast, some times...

.338, sized .334". Its a Lyman mold, but I do not know the number offhand.
I haven't heard of any one having any luck with the .323" (8mm Mauser) slugs, unless they have been paper-patched.
