My local independent tire shop has saved up three full 5 gallon pails of tire weights for me so I decided to get a cast iron pot and ingot pan. It's an old style of corn bread pan but has the small ones that will fit into melters.

Got both of them for $10 bucks!!!!!!!!!!! For you guys that have them should I do anything special with the pot for cleaning it or just heat up and start melting them down. Always used my old Lee bottom pour to clean them up, but the pot should clean up a whole lot more at a time.

Opinions will vary but I'd scrub out the pot to get rid of any crud that's in there. No reason to worry about "seasoning" a lead pot. Great Deal!

Much of the stuff for sale at our local Flea Market is stolen. That is where you go to look for your stuff that got ripped off.

Nice find!! Good set up. I have use cast iron to melt my lead no problem. Whatever you do, not that I could tell you why some people do, don't bang the pot wholes it's hot and full of lead. I guess some members here have done just that and it tends to lead to a huge mess. Other that I would get a turkey fryer for you heat and have fun!!

I have a corn bread muffin pan just like that one it also has 22 slots. I have been making ingots in it for years> I have two 5 gallon buckets full of those little bricks. They weigh about one half pound each. A bucket of wheel weights about 150#. A bucket of those little ingots weighs about 200 + #'s.

Nice score!
I would wire brush the ingot pan. The pot for smelting, I would just start melting. Anything in there is likely carbon based, and would act just like flux.

That ingot mold sold work great, I have similar ones I use all the time. I WOULD be careful with that pot, though, as it looks like it doesn't have that large a base and might be a bit tippy. Might just be the pic, but I prefer flat bottomed pots.

Personally I would clean that beautiful "ingot mould" and cook some corn bread sticks ! :) :)
Those things are hard to find !

we clean our "kitchen" cast iron by building a good sized hardwood fire and toss them into the coals. they generally get glowing red and all of the crud cooks off.
a few minor touches w/ a wire brush and they come out very clean and ready to be re-cured.
don't see why it wouldn't work for cleaning out the rust

Sorry guys I should have said Heck of a Deal. No offense taken and I understand how you feel. Several times at my local flea market I've seen stuff that I KNEW was stolen and I walk away and call the State Police. In my line of work I WON'T buy stolen goods.

Springfield - I hear ya on the bottom it has three legs on it and fits perfectly, and very stable on the side burner of my grill. Been burned bad by lead before always thinking safety.

If that cornbread mold says Griswold or Wagner on the bottom, it might be worth quite a bit to a collector.
