Looking for loads for a 285 grain cast boolit in the 9.3x62. My target velocity is anywhere from 1200 fps up to around 2000 fps. I have quite a selection of powder to choose from, but feel free to add loads for any not listed.

I have:
RL-7/RL-15/RL-19
IMR 4064/4895/4350
Unique(currently using 15 grains)/Herco
Varget/Clays/Titegroup/Longshot/Win 296

Any thoughts appreciated.[smilie=p:

I know a couple people here shoot those. Try using the search function, until they catch up with you.

Check the group buy results for the 9.3 280grain NOE mold. I've had good luck with IMR4895 in the 9.3x74 Ruger No.1 I've got. 45 grains with a 280 grain gave me 1980 fps. in the 9.3x74.
I know performance is very close for the 2 cartridges but don't know how the load data stacks up.

I've been running a 270 grain flat-point in a CZ-550 Lux for almost 10 years. 23.0 grains of Alliant 2400 gives about 1700 FPS and 1.25"-1.5" at 100 yards very reliably.

I'm engaged in some testing of this boolit to determine its upper-end velocity with accuracy in my rifle. I've used IMR-4320 at 46.0/48.0/50.0 weights to assess the possibilities. If the doctors and medical adventures would TAKE A FARKING BREAK, I'll shoot these and report back on results. My goal is similar to your own, to get this boolit up to and perhaps in excess of 2000 FPS, accuracy at 100-200 yards being the end-game.

I might have to go find some 2400, seems to be a nice light middle of the road kind of load. How far back can a guy drop his powder charges before worrying about things going wrong?

i'm using 40g R-7 under a 230 g cast.

I ran these same 270 grainers with as little as 16.0 grains of 2400, and they shot well--not very fast, maybe 1300 FPS--but very gentle in recoil.

My results with the 46.0 through 50.0 grains of IMR-4320 were kind of conjectural, really. The first 3-4 boolits hit inside 1.25"-1.75", or smaller--but as the ten-shot strings continued the groups opened radially to twice that diameter (100 yards). This was on a hot day, and after allowing the barrel to cool off the groups again started small, but expanded as the barrel heated. Not "walking" per se, more like spiraling outward.

Just to check, last week I fired some of the old stand-by loads of 23.0 grains of 2400. 10 shots into 1.6" at 100 yards. Then 10 more shots, and a 1.4" group, same center (2" high at 100). Whatever......if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

have recently moved up to 50 grains of 3031 under a 225g checked boolit. Hope to have a chance to shoot some tommorrow.
