Anybody have any experience with SR 4759 in calibers like 222, 223, and 6mm? I am assembling components to start casting for these calibers and found that I have an unopened can of 4759 hidden away.

I have used SR4759 in .250 sav with cast boolits from 100 to 120g. 1" to 2" groups is the best I can get with most groups in the 2" range. Lyman's latest Cast Bullet Manual shows starting loads of 12.2 g with 85 to 95g boolits in the 6mm Rem.

Last year I did some light J-word loads with .30-06, 7.62X54R and ........ .223 pushed with SR 4759.

I can't give you any accuracy examples because I did not follow through enough but I'd say you every reason to expect some success with that powder as it really made my .338-06 SHINE with lead!!

Thanks much for your suggestions. I did see this in the Lyman manual and was intrigued by the the apparent fact that the load was big enough in volume that I could easily see a double charge plus the low chamber pressures generated being easy on brass ( I see the price of brass and loaded bullets is taking another big jump this week). Anyway, I will give it a try in my old 6mm later this week and any group less than 1.75" at 100 will make me smile.

The Lyman cast bullet handbook lists loads for all three of those calibers, and in every bullet weight. It should work good.

I use 10 grs of SR 4759 under a thinly jacketed 55 gr bullet in .223 it shoot quite well should work for cast also. I also use a small pistol primer instead of small rifle primer the loads are more for reduced noise than any other reason.

Bullet is a spent copper musket cap with lead core formed in dies made to use 22 rimfire cases to make bullets. load is effective on possums and raccoons.

I just finished my first test of 4759 in my 6mm Rem against similar velocity loads of AA5744, 4198, and Trail Boss. The 4759 showed the least variation in velocity among them at plus or minus 20 FPS. The MV for all was about 1900 FPS.

4759 is my powder of choice in my 308 in both rifle and XP-100 (just starting working up loads here), 7-08, Hornet, 45 Colt, 44 Spl and I know I'm missing a couple here. All with cast bullets of course, that's all I shoot, I bought a box of full length gas checks once about 25 or 30 years ago. I wasn't impressed.

Lower pressures was already mentioned, somewhat cooler barrel temps also and I almost always get to the velocity I'm looking for. Both my 308 and 7-08 rifles shoot impressive groups with 4759 in the range of 1900-2000 fps. Lately I've been working with 4759 in the Hornet and am pleased so far, load development continues. You'll never get to standard factory velocity with it but that's not what I was looking for.

It does meter horrible which the reason I got the RCBS ChargeMaster. This powder works so well for me in so many cartridges and I use so much of it the cost of the ChargeMaster was well worth it.

I've loaded 7mmTCU with SR 4759, good powder. My powder measure is a Redding Model 3, sharp enough to cut the powder if necessary. It's a good powder through the load ranges, pressure builds slow enough that you can predict the outcome. Doesn't seem to have many drawbacks.

I have used it in a 338 win mag and 375 H&H with good results. Very TINY groups in the 338 (<1/2")

Care to share any of that load info?

I just shot my first group with 4759 at 100 yards this morning with the 6mm Rem. Just over 5/8" and I am sold on that powder for that caliber. I would have been happy with 3X that. Currently I am using Trail Boss in my 338 with CB's since I have so much of that powder around but I would be excited to hear that 4759 load for the 338 Winmag as well. My load for the 6mm is 16.1 gr from (dare I admit it?), a Lee 1.6 cc powder dipper so I may not fix what ain't broke even though I have a scale to measure loads. Now I am beginning to wonder if my .444 would like that powder.
