During a search for info on swaging, I found some nuggets on the Prot-X here:

AND... the op has swaging dies to make Prot-X bullets.

So anybody here who used them for jacketed swaging bullets?

I have been here for about eight years and I don't recall anyone using them or zinc gas checks, just talking about that they were used half a century ago and no longer available now. It looks like the zinc gas checks and the swaging dies are available again. One reason why they may not be popular with members here is because leading from properly sized cast lead pistol projectiles is not normally a serious problem in most pistols.

Corbin makes the same thing, essentially, using a copper base. It can be shot up 1400 fps with out leading (it is claimed), with a pure lead bullet. It is called the base guard. They work well, though I haven't gotten up to that velocity with them and I use liquid jacket on them. Also, I go a little harder than pure lead.

You can still buy a CH4D swaging die for swaging a zinc washer to the base of a handgun bullet. I have one in .35 caliber. You can also buy the properly sized zinc washers on ebay, but they're expensive. I've made a few bullets with my die, but haven't done any serious shooting with them as of yet.

Hope this helps.
