A couple of years ago I picked up a couple of grail guns; a M24-3 4" and a Ruger .44 Spl. Unfortunately neither liked my .429 Keith bullets from my old H&G mold and leaded badly. The solution turned out to be a .436 Keith bullet sized to .433 from a Ballisticast mold. Unfortunately either I forgot how to run a mold after almost 50 years or the mold is not up to par, because after a year of fighting this one off and on I still cannot get it to throw good bullets or run smoothly. [smilie=b: I see where Ballisticast is in the process of shutting down so I do not think they are going to be my solution here.

When fall comes I think I will be wanting a nice 2 cavity mold for this bullet in this diameter. Rotator cuff surgeries on each arm make the smaller molds easier to use and with long winters time is not an issue. I just got done running a good batch of .38 and .45 bullets with older Lymans; and if I can get a .44 mold to my specs that performs as well I will be a happy man.

I know there are some custom mold makers out there--more than there used to be! Everything I have is older Lyman or H&G and I am not current on who's who. I would be interested in some references from satisfied customers of these folks.

Thanks.

There are several options. I have recently bought moulds from:

- Mihec
- NOE
- Accurate Molds

All are very well made and cast to spec.

Depending on what you are looking for Mihec or NOE may have some stock from previous group buys ~ take a look:

If not then Accurate will cut existing designs to the diameter you want or create the mould that you want at the diameter you want:

I just bought an Accurate mold and it is terrific. Very good service, fast delivery and beautiful mould.

There is also BRP and again, Bruce will cut what you want. I don't have one of Bruce's moulds yet but I hear all good things about them:

I don't think you would be disappointed with a mould from any one of these outfits.

Not trying to talk you out of a new mould as a guy just can't have too many moulds but you might try a light lapping of your Ballisticast mould before you give up on it. There may be machine marks or some some small burrs causing imperfections or holding onto the boolits.

LBT is the gold standard. If you can communicate what you want, Veral can build it.

Bat - Sounds like you're going to need a lathe bored mold, due to size dimensions. That may leave out MP. At any rate, Accurate Molds lathe bores their molds and so does Veral at LBT. enjoy Mike

MP uses undersized cherries, can cut any diam, but usually limits it to a couple in a
particular design. You use a substantially smaller cherry in a NC mill and run it in a little circle,
different circles give different ODs.
