I just finished some work on my Marlin 336 converting it from a round barrel to octagonal and a curved lever to a straight lever.

You can read about it with pictures here:

Roy, I like the look of the octagon barrel. I would like one with the half magazine and pistol grip for my self.

Neat build. I missed a ZG barrel on gunbroker a while back but am looking for one for a similar conversion. Do you happen to recall the part number when you ordered?

Mo' betta'! Good job. I always preferred the straight stock on leverguns, and the FL mag tube.

Greetings That sure is an improvement... I can think of a 45-70 that just might need to be changed.

rbertalotto: I thnk you rifle looks really nice. I am waiting to see the strait lever installed.

In fact I have one I have been looking at doing something similar to. Mine is a 1958 336 and is in pretty good condition. It has a few pitts here and there but will clean up nicely before the refinish.

I wanted to do mine as a Takedown and have both a .30-30 barrel and a .38-55 barrel. Since both cartridges have exactly the same head.

Did your barrel come already threaded?

Also when you modified the bottom plate for the strait lever did you just mill the curved section off? Or was there more to it ?

I love these rifles and I feel that they have lots of room for custom touches. Just refinishing the stocks on one will reveal lots of character that the factory hides with the paint that they use as a finish. Plus that, the price is right for used ones, and unless they are rusted so bad they have to be welded up, they are easily resurected.

Even really rough ones can still be made into very serviceable utility guns, like pack guns, car or truck guns etc.

Nice job.

Now it would be really cool if Marlin brought back the 1/2 round.
