Some one here was making one 7/8- 14 external thread on the bottom and 7/8 -14 internal thread on top to get your die higher. Who was it? I would like to buy 2.Thanks

Check out this thread:

My sketch of what you're asking about is post 4 in the thread. What I actually made and sent to 94Doug is shown in post 18.

It was too tall so I shortened the top from 2" to 1-1/2".

It was intended to replace the reducer bushing (1-1/4 x 12 external threads to 7/8 x 14 internal threads) used in Rockchucker presses.

Haven't made a 7/8-14 to 7/8-14 extended adapter yet but I'm willing to talk needs and prices.

...and I intend to try the new one out real soon (two days off starting tomorrow), and will post the results. The long version did work, however it was a bit longer than needed, and my expander die was nearly swallowed up into the adapter. The new version seems like it will be just the ticket.

Here it is.

If you want to have a 7/8-14 internal & a 7/8-14 external, then why not buy a 7/8-14 coupler nut & a short piece of thread rod to go with it? If you drill a hole through the thread rod & screw it half way into the coupler, I think that will give you what you are asking for.

JiminPHX, I can almost guarantee that solution will not be concentric with the press axis. The tolerances of off the shelf t'rod and nuts are just too sloppy to be useful for reloading purposes. JMHO

I'm making a couple of 7/8 to 7/8 extenders for a member here. I'll post photos of the completed items when I'm done with them.

I need one a them for my powder. Too bad brass stretches or we could use one on brass too.

Leftiye, pm sent to you. I'd love to make one in brass because I love machining brass but the material cost would be pretty high.

An honest question here...
How do you figure that? The fit between my loading press & my dies is pretty sloppy. They seem to self center when I tighten things up.

The only real trick that I see is getting a good hole in the thread rod without buggering up the threads. I do that by splitting a threaded coupling & chucking that up in a lathe with the thread rod inside.

Am I missing something? Did I maybe misunderstand what is trying to be done here?

You ain't kidding. Brass is over $5/lb around here. A month or two ago, I went to buy a piece of 2" diameter 360 brass about a foot long from a local shop. The price was over $85. I put it back on the shelf, then went home & redesigned my part so that it could be made out of a smaller piece of material.

Enco:

1-1/2" brass 360 hex stock, 72", $268.32 + shipping.

$3.73+ per inch, extender takes 3" stock. $11.18 just for material!

Yikes!

Here are the two 7/8-14 to 7/8-14 extenders I made for a member here. The 10-24 nylon tipped setscrew eliminates the need for a die locking ring but will not harm the die threads. One picture shows an RCBS 9mm die screwed fully into the extender.
