View Full Version : Taurus TCP and Lee 105?

I just got a Taurus TCP. I was deciding between that and a LCP. From different info I found on-line, I went with the TCP because in general there seemed to be more positive feedback on it.

I have the Lee 105 SWC mold, and I found info on using it in a .380 LCP with good results. The TCP, on the other hand, seems to have a sharp throat that absolutely prohibits use of this boolit, as far as I can tell. If I seat the bullet deep enough to chamber, the brass bulges real bad halfway down.

Any ideas? I assume I'll just need to get another mold instead, like a 102gr RN. Yes, I know the vitriolic feelings some folks have for anything Taurus; maybe I should have gone with the Ruger but that's irrelevant now. Please don't beat me up over that.

Check out Ranch Dog Outdoors listings.

He has a 100 grain FL 380 boolit that my 738 eats up like salted peanuts. They load nicely and feed flawlessly in my gun. If I were you, I'd give em a try.

BTW, I make/sell that exact boolit (now theres a plug if I ever heard one) so you can try it before you get the mold. I highly recommend it.

That does look like a good bullet. I don't know if I can justify the extra expense over a cheap 2-cavity mold, though, since I'm not a high volume shooter.

I also remembered that I'm pretty sure I have a couple boxes somewhere of old supervel 90gr JHPs. I'll have to dig them out and load a few of them up.

Dont worry about the case buldge ! if it will chamber ? its a go !
Certian types of brass have thicker case wall tapering than others .

No, if I seat them deep enough so the bullet won't hit the throat, there is a SERIOUS bulge in the brass, big enough to absolutely prohibit chambering.

Y'all will laugh at me. Just to try it out, I partially sized some boolits. I used a ram from a Lee push through sizer to run them partway into a 7.62 Nagant case sizer die, then tapped them out with a punch from the top. This sized the top shoulder of the bullet to about .350 and they load and chamber fine.

It went pretty quick to size 100, but really is too much messing around. I like the look of the Ranch Dog mold, but I'll probably end up ordering a cheap 2-cavity 102-RN mold.

I have a TCP and it is reliable with Lee 101 gr round point slugs sized .356". I have to seat them a little deeper than I do for my Thunderer 380 Bersa but they function just fine.

Just a plug here, nothing like blatant commercialism

I make and sell that boolit ready to load should you no be inclined to "roll your own", at least for now.
